Get some Balls eSouth Africa
OKayOK
I love eSouth Africa. I have always been a strong patriot and defend this nation with all I have, but I have almost had enough of this country living in fear. I remember back to the days when we used to play everyday and wait for our end to come from Brazil or Indonesia. It was a paralyzing fear and we were cowardly, never standing up for anything. When we finally turned and spat in our enemies faces the world watched in shock because they were under the impression that we were PEACE/PHX.
We showed our strength and we prevailed.
Again we live in fear. Every-time we have an election, the democratic process has to be obscured in some way all in the name of anti-PTO action. Why is it that during party elections the parties are asked to run only one candidate? Did we once again not over estimate the threat? Is it not this type of reaction that the would be PTOers are in fact trying to provoke? Which tune are we as a nation dancing to? Are we dancing to the PTOers or to that of ourselves?
If one person or 40 people want to run for the leadership of their party they are fully entitled to and should be encouraged to. I hope that as a country we can all put the days of the dreaded PTO behind us and move on. I understand the need for Security and caution but being paranoid is different from being wise and prepared.
Show the world that we are not cowards and let full democracy reign in this country. We need a solution to the problem and we need to stop treating the symptoms. We are too proud for that.

You don't even give citizenship and you ask for democracy in the party elections ? It's almost impossible and implausible
xam xam - I think you will see that all citizen passes are given at the end of each term. I have no problem with the system in place for immigration
Mark Morcom is a boob
Ummm, we underestimated the PTO threat and very bad things happened to us. They will never happen again, even if it means overestimating the threat every election. It's as simple as that. And every election there are viable evidence of PTO attempts. It's clear as a day. So what's your idea to stop them and keep the democracy? Which btw. I think exists very much in SA, it just doesn't follow game mechanics.
Ok, so where was the PTO? Who was the PTOer. Was it this:

A person with 3 votes?
afaik, the parties were asked to run a poll for candidates on their party forums and come to a consensus of who to place on the ballot. It was a fully democratic process and anyone involved in that party could've run for the position, just not via game mechanics. If anyone else decides to run on their own account, they probably aren't too involved with their party nor active on the forums; alternatively, they're likely doing it for ulterior motives.
The MoS did not intervene in this election in any way, other than suggesting to the parties that they run a single candidate.
We've let our guard down before and we've seen what happened. We need to be prepared for all elections as we've seen that our enemies will take even the smallest opportunity to conquer us via PTO.
Better to overestimate a threat that never materializes than to underestimate a threat that costs us our country. I'm surprised Mark, you were there when we lost our country to PTOers, you know the potential consequences of splitting our votes. Yes, I'm sure we'd all like to have TRUE democracy, but until we drastically increase our loyal and active population base we'll have to find alternatives to in-game democracy. I'm sure you're aware of how easy it is to create a flood of multis a day or so before elections and attempt to PTO a country/party. Admins claim to be working on it, but I honestly don't trust them to secure our country. They haven't in the past, and I won't put my trust in them until they show me some concrete proof that they're actively combating the PTO problem.
Mark, right now eAus is undergoing a huge PTO attack from eIndo. At any moment, we could be next. I too would prefer fair and democratic elections; I was planning on it for the PP elections. However, if the MoS thinks there will be a security risk, we are obliged to listen to him whether or not we think the threat is small or major. We underestimated a PTO threat before and it led to Brazil and Argentina walking over us.
eSA is in a tough situation. We need to constantly be prepared for an attack of some kind or else we'll be caught off guard by our enemies.
You know, I saw the exact same thing in eAustrailia, the whole 'no democracy' thing? Guess how many votes their PTO'er got in the CP elections? Almost 100 votes back from the leader.
-
Parties probably voted for their prefered candidate before hand, it's still democracy. I know for a fact the NPSA did it democratically(well I put my name up and everyone decided to support me, same principle concept, they voted to support me).
-
Mark, I know this is tough times, I know. I would LOVE completely fearless elections, but when the entire history of eSA involves PTO after PTO, what do you think is gonna happen? Even if there wasn't a threat THIS term, it's still better safe then sorry.
-
I'm actually not suprised by this, though. I figured it was gonna happen sooner or later, like in eAus.
Chris has no boobs
You are right on the button, Mark!
End the paranoia and McCarthyism now, or you won;t find people willing to run for or stay in Congress for a start.
we should attack brazil
"You won't find people willing to run for Congress"
Really? You really think that because people have to fill out a form or have the elections on the forum, they won't be willing to run? Really?
It's a fully democratic process. Looking at congress elections, the parties are asked to put forth their candidates and then we fill the gaps with blockers. What's undemocratic about that?
like alot of poeple said this wasnt UN-democratic, this was discussed by all parties beforehand and everyone who wanted to run for PP could have put their hand up then and parties could have voted and dicsussed it internally.
And for the record mark were not out of the woods yet concerning PTO's my friend...Just because the last 2 terms were quiet doesnt mean the threat is gone forever. AS DoI i see quite alot of Brazilians, hungarians and other phoenix threats trying to get citizenship.
having "balls" does not mean we should just sit idle and do nothing...
at the end of the dy we'll have good candidates and be safe from PTO's - WHAT IS ZE FREAKIN PROBLEM.
Yes attack Brazil
MCA421, feel free to donate to the treasury my man
unfortunately when a relatively small nation such as South Africa is poised to become and economic powerhouse in V2, democracy must be put on hold until such time as the population grows to an "un-PTOable" number, or there's world peace (lol).
so now you see the downside of the gifts the admins have given us, everybody wants what we have, and will do anything to take it.
Mark, your memory must have short circuited. Not that very long ago, you were asking me to step down, in the presidential race against Mulder. Perhaps I should go find your exact comment, and refresh your memory. Yet you call us undemocratic for asking our members to follow a direct request from the MoS. But you are right on one account, I am dayem proud to be SA, and I will do whatever is necessary to protect her.
We need baby boom, Let's think about how to promote Erepublik in real life.
Mark, I believe that you also stood against Wingfield when he complained about this same issue in congress.
If the PP's were voted on in the forum, it is still a democratic process. Just because it wasn't done via game mechanics doesn't mean a thing.
