I hope most of you know, but, in Spain there is a country. A country seperate from Spain, culturaly, spiritually, and realistically. It is a country, that is owned by a foreign country....Spain. It is a country, that for 400 years, has been oppressed by Spain.
It is Catalonia.
In September of this year the people of Spain and Catalonia will go to the polls for their general election.
But the Catalans are treating it is an independence referendum.

after madrid the whole of catalonia is the most expensive per square meter property. i dont know whyn they want to be independent their properly a great influence in the rest of spain and borrow a lot of workers from mainland spain.
Because they make more than they receive. Catalonia held independence and was anarchist (libertarian socialist) for a few years in the 30s. They were betrayed by the stalinists on one war front, and crushed by the fascist regime of Franco on the other. They gained and lost their independence within a decade but are still very independent minded. Economically though it's all about them producing more for the nation but getting quite a lot less of those tax dollars invested in their region.
