The relations between Finland and Estonia have always been considered excellent. Finnish and Estonian delegations are visiting each other with a regularity which seeks comparison in the entire world. It might be the German-French Elysee treaty which comes close to this. Finland and Estonia did, however, never sign a comparable treaty. On June 1st the close relationship will mark its 4.5th anniversary. Time to speak with citizen and organizers of this year's festivities.

Many Norwegian citizen seem yet to be unaware of this event. Asked when the Finnish-Estonian relationship is going to be celebrated many answered with dates related to other historic events, such as May 17.
"At some point we realized the anniversaries of this relationship will always tend to happen in February. A time which is usually marked by cold weather. Hence we decided to move the celebrations by half a year." explains the organizer of this year's fireworks in Tallinn "So we are just celebrating the half anniversaries of this outstanding relationship each year."

A Finnish citizen said in an interview:
"I have been visiting Estonia since the very beginning. These informal relations have helped Estonia - no doubt. That country developed incredibly fast. I have many friends in Estonia. We are visiting us regularly. A close friend of mine departed to visit Oulu this morning but he called me and said something of Nationalists not letting him in to the city's shopping center."

Similar things are to be heard of Estonian citizen. Neeeme D. told the Fennoscandian: "When this first started I had my suspicions. We all thought this would be the end of the world, you know? But things turned out to be different. They rang at my door and asked me if I already had a Finnish flag. When I said, I didn't own one, a Finnish Commander shouted 'Yki bring me more, we need more flags here'. Well I asked them if I could have a second one for my son, but they didn't have enough for all Estonians. The commander than donated me his HJK merchandise scarf - the then champions of the Veikkausliiga - my son has since become a great supporter of them. He just visited Helsinki to watch the match versus Seinäjoen, it has been a 1:0 victory. The Commander and me have become close friends since then. Last year when he visited me, I gave him a scarf of 'Paide Linnameeskond'."

Tonight at midnight UTC+3 this year's fireworks will start. This year both governments came across to solely use the colors blue and white. Should the weather conditions be good, then it would be possible to see the Tallin fireworks in Helsinki and vice versa - both cities are less than 100km apart.

Meanwhile environmentalists announced protests against the fireworks. The reason of complaint is the "useless pollution of the atmosphere". The Finnish government, however, is convinced the particles will stay in the lower atmosphere which would mean the fireworks had a chilling effect rather than accelerating global warming.
