Farewell from Hugo Lilly [BE]

Day 1,005, 06:16 Published in Belgium Netherlands by Hugo Lilly

I am quitting eRepublik, because I no longer enjoy the game. I've hung on as long as I could to fulfill my obligations to my friends and the Belgian community. But with the next Congress elections coming up, I am ready to drop out and pass the torch to the next generation. In the past year or more, I have grabbed the eRep experience with both hands and lived a long and fulfilling eLife.

The friend that touched my life the most was Apotygma. When we'd both only been playing a few months, we bought our first company together, which we nurtured into a multi-business conglomerate. The two of us, and our good pal Olv007 spent many hours together planning elections and making important decisions and that ultimately shaped eBelgian politics the way it is today. Of course there are many good people whose paths crossed with mine in our efforts to free eBelgium from PTO, and then to rebuild eBelgium as an independent nation. ThomasRed, Jofroi, LeValeureuxLiegeois, Velitia, mattinounet - I am proud to have been part of Belgium for Belgians with you. I also have great respect for members of Res Belgica notably Rithulme, Aldous Zamiatin, and Gibberish45; our ideals were different but we had the same goal, to make eBelgium a great place to live. The last of my Belgian shout-outs go to my friends in the miscellaneous party category 😉 Manong Rizal (aka Sekishi), Theneka, HuCard, and mudduck95.

Of course Belgians did not fight the American and Polish PTO alone. Niemand, Kravenn, and Elynea, you guys were there for me in the darkest hours of Belgian history, when I felt alone and friendless. Your advice, your assistance, and your comments in our articles filled me with hope that I desperately needed.

I was born in the United Netherlands, when Belgium and Netherlands were peacefully merged. It was a successful merger, in my eyes, Belgians and Dutch side by side, with lots of great government programs, strong relations with our Phoenix allies, and a wide spectrum of political parties to provide vigorous debate. My greatest regret is that Belgium in its independence now could not reach the economic, political, or military greatness that we had when we were merged with Netherlands.

I want to say thanks to Perro Guapo, who was my coach in the eUNL. You were the first person to befriend me, and I am grateful. And of course I must say goodbye my friends in the eUNL: Perry Rhodan, Trinc, Auggustus, Frerk, Hugo McFartalot, DanielB1989, AndreasIsaksson, Mighty Sigh, Luuklag, Boklevski, and Myers11.

I should also include in my goodbyes Arjay Phoenician and Ines Schumacher. Although we lived in different countries, I enjoyed our messages back and forth, laughing at the insanity of it all.

Also, not a goodbye but a thank you to my real-life friends in eRep: Peter Freedom, IvIoney, Southwestern Iran Guy, and MaDaBr14. Just like me, my RL friends are leaving eRep too. Hey are you guys dead yet?

I apologize for leaving out any names, as you can see I had quite a few to cover.

I am a bit glad to quit. I've been thinking about it for a long time. V2 kind of ruined the game for me. In fact, many of the people listed in my farewells above have already quit the game and probably won't even read this.

The most important aspect of eRep to me is the friendships, the alliances, and the co-operation in this game. Without all of you, I would not have had the amazing time that I did. It's my time to go, but I want you guys to know I had a lot of fun, and that it was because you touched my life that it was so enjoyable.
