Dylan gets a bit touchy on the subject... What, you don't remember all the thefts attributed to mismanagement from the oldfags of eIreland back in the day?

I was here most of 2010, and this same thing happened regularly... But the people who stole get treated as "oh, you silly person, you" and Marcus gets treated as if he transgressed beyond transgression and should be crucified.

What makes Marcus different from the other thieves? (if he did it?)

My opinion is that he's been turned into a scapegoat, one that the true thief or thieves can blame for all our problems.
