Alone is what I have

Watch the birds dance overhead.
Spiraling far above
For as far as eye can see
Circling
Narrowing.
Closing in.

Remember.
You too once wandered.
You walked the earth around you.
Learning
Seeing
Living.

Dying

Oh you never thought it would end, never thought that things would end up like this.

Never thinking, never seeing. Looking all around you, but what does it matter? Not when there are more important things to be done. Never stopping to learn. Never changing your path.

Graceless.
And now you lie here alone
staring

Where could it have all gone wrong
That you are here
alone
the sun beating you
merciless

And isn’t it what you deserve?
Leaving everything behind?
No one is left to see.

How small indeed you have become.

While we look on, smirking, laughing. Taunting, jeering, every flaw, insecurity laid bare before you. Where you can’t run. You hear their cries of triumph as you lie there. You turn your head to see. But the voices are without form.

And the birds circle ever closer.
