[IDF] Brain Drain and Change of Command

9 December 2010, Day 1,115 of the New World. Even though Israel’s wages are very low compared to the rest of the world and can export finished goods to more affluent countries, its main export seems to be people. To illustrate this point, I sat before my fireplace one evening with a pad of paper and a bottle of kosher wine and recounted everyone I could think of who has emigrated since I’ve lived here. This is by no means a comprehensive list, as I used no comprehensive method to derive it. The names that returned to my memory were all people who were active enough to write or comment on articles or join us on IRC, or else I would have virtually no way of detecting and recollecting their ephemeral presence in our country. Everyone on the list isn’t necessarily good; in fact it is beneficial that at least a couple of them are no longer with us. The length, though, should illustrate my point.

You would think twenty-one active citizens could have brought us somewhere. Brain drain like this is difficult to recover from. At the very least those are some skilled workers who took their economic benefits elsewhere. I now draw the reader’s attention to the last two names. The former Minister of Defense and Ral Aluf both rather abruptly left, and now the military is as a skeleton without a central nervous system.

New leadership is needed, and it is needed yesterday. For this reason, I have taken over command of Israel Defense Forces. The other officers and I commanded the newly elected President to sign the orders, and they came into effect at 1800 eRepublik time, Day 1,115.



Now I would say something about reorganizing the Mobile Division and rearranging appointments in the Stationary Division, but we’ve had enough of that in the last few months. How is it that Israel Defense Forces haven’t done anything in four months? We have a dedicated corps of officers left in the Stationary Division, but our enlisted turnover is rapid. For every new soldier who trickles into our recruitment center, an active-duty one dies. IDF has atrophied from lack of use. Israel, it is time to do something.

The remaining officers are being contacted, and the Mobile Division is being prepared for action. The Stationary Division will not be seeing any command changes and will still be led by Aluf Beagle Boy.

We haven’t had to fight for our own security for a long time now. Other nations have not been so blessed by geography and do not enjoy the freedom we squander. Israeli politicians talk about Israel playing a bigger role in the New World, maybe even joining EDEN, yet Israel does nothing abroad. It is time to change that. Something big is already in motion.
