[CPF] The Reasoning
TheSmoke
Reasoning: the action of thinking about something in a logical, sensible way.
I know I know, this is Canada, and heck, this is a game, right? So why in the hell should we use reasoning? Well, because most of us are not 14 year old high school students trying to stick our manhood in anything and everything that walks, and maybe talks. Instead we can still collectively act like some sort of country and come to a rational decision.
The recent events that played out in our Maritimes was the result of an organized, properly executed plan that was accompanied by a lot of luck from new game mechanics. Portugal and its allies were able to get multiple fronts open on Spain, and with some solid backing from hard hitting countries, sent Spain reeling. As many people may try and claim ownership of this successful campaign, the success does not fall on any political party in Canada.
The leader of a Canadian MU that was supplying CO’s for Canada openly admits that $1,000 was all they needed to keep D4 over the wall for several rounds. That is peanuts, and to those Canadians who actually stayed for most of our 8 month wipe, can attest that $1,000 would do very little in our previous attempts to fight Spain. I know, and am waiting for those typical citizens to come in here and flash their wallets and say “look at how much X player did, and Y player contributed this.”
It’s lies people, don’t let them sell you something that’s not yours. Portugal’s government is spending $800,000 dollars on this war, and that is only government money, not including all the money from private citizens and MU’s.
What we need to do is ask the people how they feel on this subject, which has not been done. An open debate, discussion and eventual referendum should be held, as the decision of a potential 8 month wipe should not be decided by one person.
Canada has proven to be reliable and trustworthy towards Spain, despite our ill treatment for the 8 months. There are several people here who can credit my efforts of trying to stick it to Spain during our wipe, I was adamant about getting North Eastern Venezuela up every time we tried to win a RW, along with many other efforts. But the truth of it is, nothing major has changed from a militaristic view point.
Instead, as Canadians we can be progressive, and at least try to seek out all potential options. If we collectively wish to try and stand our ground and hold back Spain, then I will see you on the battlefield Comrades. If we wish to avoid such a battle again, then we take a more diplomatic approach. Either way, we need to discuss this.
Let’s plan now, and reap the benefits down the road
Cheers,
TheSmoke

Damned straight.
There is too much "noise" related to this issue to really conclude anything.
I do not believe the rebellion was planned from the start.
Two incredibly timed events contributed to this.
First, Portugal's war created an opportunity to push back at eSpain while it was down and some people took advantage of it. I don't believe it started as a party specific thing, just some seeds of malcontent over being wiped for eight months and having to submit to eSpain in a NAP ever since.
Second, the promotion of the FF Medal created an abundant need of RW and I firmly believe that all of eCan's regions would have been RW'd back during the promotion releasing the FF medal regardless of the Portugal war.
I believe "The Rebellion" is really a troll, a group taking more credit than it really deserves for actions beyond what they were responsible for. The group DEFINITELY supported the RWs and DEFINITELY participated in the actions, but the favourable circumstances created by the ePortugal War and the FF Medal Promotion are why we are where we are at.
And where are we at? eSpain knows EXACTLY what happened, and I believe that their opinion of eCan hasn't changed at all. The true tests are coming up.
How eCan responds to the NE that eSpain will declare to reclaim what is theirs under the terms of the NAP will speak volumes. How eSpain responds to eCan's request for relief given Admin's introduction of "Tax Grab by Occupier" will also speak volumes as to how eSpain perceives eCan in this unbalanced partnership.
The true test of reasoning at this point: Is it in eCan's interest to comply with eSpain and return to the situation under the negotiated NAP OR to break the old NAP in the hopes of negotiating a better NAP (less regions or collecting rent) OR break the old NAP in hopes that we can defend against eSpain altogether.
Thats a pretty accurate summation. Well put good sir.
Not on board with the whole troll thingy and totally understand that certain conditions came together to make it possible for the return of our 4 regions. We have always said that, before the recent changes ingame, that we expect to be wiped but will fight regardless in RW's
Well said!
Great article! Time to be progressive eCanada!
Try and throw as many wet towels on this as you want. The fact remains that MDP leadership stepped up and took advantage of an opportunity, one that would not have been pursued by the current government. As Addy has pointed out, with the subsequent addition of "Freedom Fighter" gold and now the concepts of "Empire" and "Determination" these regions were more than likely to come back to us at some point.
I'm personally baffled why our government officials now seem so eager to negotiate these regions back to Spain. My conclusion is that the administration must be sympathetic to TWO.
Indeed, I suspect Manhattan wants it that way (the TWO part), which believe it or not was not really revealed in the cabinet chats...
The administration has changed direction now, with the inclusion of region taxes, FF medals and the new changes to come tomorrow we've asked for another meeting prior to them NEing us. Things have certainly changed.
You just admitted that the MDP hopped on the bandwagon and is trying to sell it as theirs. The Maritimes were being returned due to the situation, not because a few Canadians turned the tide...
You're caught in your own argument. It's political posturing for you if you're going after the "few Canadians" who "hopped on the bandwagon" as you say. Fact is a favourable situation was identified by a connected group of people who then rallied others and led the charge.
You can't have it both ways TheSmoke.
No I am telling people not to be fooled by politics. Your brother wins a free car in a raffle, trying to tell your brother that you bought him the car is a lie, and looks bad on you.
That's a horrible analogy.
Saying we identified the raffle with good odds of winning and then put up the money to buy the ticket is a more appropriate analogy.
@TheSmoke
Politics is all about framing public opinion regarding your partisanship and the environmental events and circumstances. Politically, MDP gets straight A's through this whole series of events. The Oinyo Administration CONSISTENTLY missed opportunities to do the same thing and they DELAYED action too many times and they suffered.
To run with your brother analogy, he could frame it as "I got a new car", which is the truth, but not the whole truth, and implies that he bought it which says more about him than if he won it.
Not even your own supporters wanted the government to ""officially" support the RW's. There would be no going back from that.
If an alliance ever forms to challenge TWO it will need some current members of TWO to be viable. That means your enemy today may end up being your ally tomorrow. Building bridges may speed up the process.
When Spain NE's us, why exactly do you think we will be in a position of strength? The only thing we offer is the good faith we established during the NAP. The very thing your doing your best to destroy.
I
I'll have to order retraining for those individuals ED.
With the game changes you don't necessarily need a large alliance anymore. I think you'll see everything more fragmented moving forward. That's what the admins want as it keeps people spending money.
Just read the changes. This could change everything. We will need to see the actual numbers they are talking about.
Finally, an article not fuelled by Mountain Dew and Viagra. Common sense still does exist in the media.
Epic comment.
Does it? Where? I haven't seen any yet... 🙂
Great article in the efforts to at least get the majority of people on one side of the fence or the other. Im personally still taking the wait and see approach when Spain NEs us, then i see what shakes out of that.

Common sense? Say it ain't so!

looks like the eCan Gov joined the Resistance and is done reasoning with Spain for our regions unless they pay up
Well this is convenient...looks like the "Conditions" were just right for this wonderful political posturing article.
Let's frame the resistance as "Lucky" and "Time just right" with "Good Conditions" because really, to acknowledge that your political enemies did something that worked would be bad business right?
Let's be honest...everything that happens in this game is based on a pinch of luck, a dash of conditions, and a big ol heaping spoonful of determination. I could argue that EVERY RW that is opened and won is simply a byproduct of the aforementioned.
Lets cut the cultural hegemony coming from your party and abandon these hackneyed political values your holding out in the face of success at the hands of the MDP.
I would argue that these same hackneyed concepts of Progressive Reasoning are just as tired.
The resistance was a success, well timed, lucky, or whatever you want to call it. Success is success...all of the said regions have been returned. You're welcome eCanada...thank your local MDP resistance leader.
As Jack Nicholson said in "A Few Good Men", "I'd rather you just said thank you and went on your way..."

TL😃R Translation: This game is anything but reasonable and any attempt to say otherwise is fools gold.
Those of us who fought in the real resistance when we were wiped for 8 months recognize the truth in his words. Now luck and Plato has dealt a new set of cards and it looks like this all worked out for all of us. Luck again. This article was written before the new changes were announced.
I wouldn't call it luck; the admins should always have been finding a balancing act between powers. What keeps battles roaring, keeps people buying gold. Giving the underdogs more of a fighting chance is long overdue, especially considering the number of people that left because they were tired of being struggling underdogs.
(My conspiracy theory is that admins had this set up all along, but waited to initiate it until there was only one legitimate alliance left. This is basically their war restart button. Otherwise TWO would live up to their name, The World is Ours, and those that want to fight find that there's no point, then the game ends, TWO wins, and admins can no longer milk eRep.)
In V1, Canada had her timezone advantage; after V1, we got nothing much for a strategic competitive advantage. With the admins moving faster with these releases, it's always the first one to adapt that can turn the tables. The anticipation of V2 was all the rage; it was all about adapting first (which TCO did really well with the hexfield battlegrounds).
The last release that gave Canada a fighting chance was the national shield. IIRC, that was right before the 8-month wipe was ended and we moving into a NAP with Spain. Did the national shield give Canada some power and help us get out of the wipe? You can call it luck, but at the end of the day it's how you play the cards.
Would the MDP admit that under the Oinyo administration, Canada has seen the return of our regions from Spain, without any major backlashes, has continued to harbour two friendly allies while earning extra money and in general has not F***ed us up with a wipe. The last thing the MDP can do is admit that anyone else in Canada can do something.
Of course it happened under the Oinyo adminsitration but the administration had absolutely nothing to do with it and would of block it if it could, it was regular eCanadians that won them back, but a major backlash is still up in the air, Spain wants those regions. Those extra regions came from the Addy administration not Oinyos. So far Oinyo's adminsitration hasnt really done anything besides a failed try at a social program which had everything to do with who he put in charge of it
" it was regular eCanadians that won them back"
Common you are better than that. A few people in Canada were the reason the 4 regions were returned? My Jesus where were they during the 8 month wipe then with those ultimate Jesus powers?
did I say a few?
alot more eCanadians fought for those regions then didnt not to mention the outside help we had from friends
when you put that beside all the circumstances with Portugal and Spain basically giving them up to return later ofc we won them back
so exactly what has the Oinyo administration done so far
Would the honourable leader of the CPF care to highlight what the Oinyo administration did, directly, to influence or otherwise bring about the return of said regions? Would the honourable leader of the CPF like to outline WHO in the Oinyo administration, or any other party did to "Strike while the iron was hot" in returning said regions?
I for one will gladly admit that anyone else can do something, as soon as anyone else does 🙂
Last I heard from the Oinyo Administration, "Spain's land was being returned to them forthwith" or something like that...Spain's land...er...you mean OUR land? Riiiiiggggghhhhtttt....Forgot about that part LOL
Trust me Acacia no one wanted the government putting an official stamp of approval on the RW's because it would have been a stupid strategic move and we would have gained nothing by doing so. We all played our roles and the bottom line it all worked out. You just keep trying to make it all about you and yours.
Acacia I think it is cruel to look upon the elected leader that way. HereI go again, but all this is hypocrisy. Believe it or not if the roles were switched the only thing difference between comments now and that hypothetical situation would be the names (eg. crisfire and ED switch for example)
That is the nature of the eNation we live in.
different*
I blame autocorrect.
Klop I completely agree...and as one former CP to another...you and I BOTH know that this game had a cruel hand of fate. Things change rapidly in this game and the notions you campaign on can quickly go up in TheSmoke...oops sorry...I meant smoke 🙂 Is it cruel to hang this on Oinyo? Sure it is...but Im not the cruel party here...Plato and his fate twisting antics is.
The other thing is, we both know that political currency comes and goes rapidly in this game. It would be foolish for a party not to capitalize on the results and campaign/hang their banner on them. I am quite certain that had the CPF pulled off this little Christmas Miracle, there would be plenty of trumpeting about it whilst the rest of us would have to carry the baggage of "Are we ever going to hear the end of this?"
The MDP and the resistance scored a win here. As in hockey, it doesn't matter how the game winning goal goes in...so long as it is legal and just...it only matters that it went in 🙂
I am also smart enough to know that political favour is a slippery animal and at a moments notice, one's grip on it can quickly falter. That time is coming no doubt...for now however, the victory belongs to the Resistance and its root cultivators...the MDP.
Very true Acacia, very true.
Also my apologies, I hadn't intended to call you cruel, I was referring to the game 😛
Well I guess you can get a box of cigars for Xmas then Acacia 😉
nothing to add to my comments TheSmoke
"so exactly what has the Oinyo administration done so far"
so I can quote you as nothing as well?
v
"Portugal’s government is spending $800,000 dollars on this war"
Off topic, but Holy shit. If you take the 800,000CC, divide it by the price of gold (206 currently), you get 3883.46 gold for this war. By dividing that further by 300 ( the price of the most expensive, but highest quantity of purchasable gold during times where no promotion is currently running, you get 12.94 (lets round to 13). If one were to then multiply that number by the cost of the pack's purchase price (135.12), the total cost of war in real CAD is roughly $1456.56. That's an insane value to be put into a game. Just my random thought of the day.
