[CP] The ATLAS Treaty

Greetings eCanada,
Today we have signed on to a Treaty with two of our friends, Portugal and France. This Treaty, named ATLAS, will work to strengthen the ties between its member nations and provide aid to one another in situations of need.
The main purpose of the Treaty is to defend the sovereignty of all member nations, keeping each country intact.
We also offer some complimentary music for your listening pleasure.

It's just a friendship treaty, numbskull.
A friendship treaty with the bureaucracy of an alliance is an alliance. Calling it anything else is semantics.
Or maybe it's a friendship treaty and you're just trying to stir up shit.
I really hope Asteria and LETO leadership signed off on this before it was made public.

The energy wasted on something like this would have been better spent simply working on creating greater cooperation/cohesion within LETO -- but meh, W/E.

I'm not sure what they're thinking with this, but it smells awful.
We have strong cooperation and cohesion with LETO. This was not wasted energy, but solid foreign affairs. Portugal and France have always been strong Canadian allies and this pact recognizes that. There is not much in this treaty that isn't already a given.
Canada strongly values its position within LETO and I do not see that changing in the foreseeable future.
Xichael, the issue here is they have created the bureaucracy of an alliance while still members of LETO. This is extremely poor form on the part of all three nations. They may not call it an alliance, but by any other name that is still what it is. I sure hope LETO and Asteria leadership was informed of this before they made it public because if they weren't you can expect some very upset allies.
Why? Portugal and France are both LETO members. This will not conflict with LETO priorities at all, it just formalized our close relationship with these two countries. You seem like you just want to cause trouble and sow discord among us and our allies.

Hardly. Renewed ties and more formal cooperation between countries within an alliance is a benefit, not a disadvantage. If anything, such a pact was necessary for the defence of the country's interests within the greater alliance. The geographic core of the major partners is not on the Atlantic, after all.

Man, ever since LETO screwed IBB out of his SG role, things have been falling apart. IBB won that election fair and square, btw. Or you could just be trying to mimic Pacifica, the alliance that ain't been given no respect, yet is growing in strength everyday. In either case, this should be fun to watch. Especially whose side MEK will end up on.

I hope that Atlas works out for you all. If existing relationships don't work, then they are no longer mutually beneficial and should be dissolved. You have to find those relationships that work for you and pursue them to their ultimate conclusion. Corruption in an alliance -- not carrying out the results of the election of an alliance -- is the start of a downward trend not easily fixed, unless you are able to remove those responsible for the corruption. Easier said than done.
This has nothing to do with LETO or any of its internal workings. We have absolutely no problems with LETO.
Then why Atlas? If the LETO countries involved aren't leaving their present alliance, it looks like you all are creating a new level of bureaucracy where one isn't needed.
Simply because it was the desire of the countries. I am not in foreign affairs, but apparently there was interest in making something like this. So, why not? This game is about interacting, this only stands to improve our relations. It's volunteer, so it's not like this "bureaucracy" is being paid. I can see no harm.

For the record. This is not a new alliance. Canada is still in LETO.
This is simply a pact of continued friendship and working towards even further cooperation between our geographically, socially, and politically close allies of Portugal and France.
We've seen them in the past, and we will see them in the future.
Canada would not leave LETO without the public's approval, likely through a referendum of some sort, should that time ever arise.
You can call it whatever you like, but when you have the bureaucracy of an alliance and it does all the same things an alliance does that is what it is. You can argue semantics all you like, but I have a feeling Asteria and LETO leadership will be pissed since they weren't consulted or made aware of this before it was published.
It even as an eRep alliance's name. ATLAS is just another one of those meaningless acronyms used throughout the game's history.
