E marriage is a sacred institution between a man and a woman and witnessed by God. Its a religious thing and not only a church to church thing. Due to this most Christians will feel obliged by their religion to protect one of their institutions. Just because you belief every one should be allowed the torture and agony of marriage does not mean religious rights should be swiped aside especially where there is a similar ceremony with the same effect. For many this will be a dilemma as most people have gay family members . One cannot cut out sections of the bible because its politically correct.

Not that a foreign opinion has any weight in RL domestic Irish affairs but, as an excuse to highlight your lack of knowledge on the subject & to expose your plain bigotry; if the referendum passes Churches will still retain their right to marry whoever they wish.
Religion should play no part in state matters, religion should be an individual affair and not an imposition by a Government. Look to the East & North Africa where women can't drive cars or walk in front of men by law because of what the Koran teaches, you cannot base the laws of your country on religious teachings.

Um, yeah, yeah, look. Since looong time marriage is not only a religious institution. If it were so, married couples wouldn't have better law position (eg.: only spouses are allowed to get health info in case of accident, and so on). I think it will be all about law, because you see... Vatican is quite narrow-minded - in may cases (not like i'm atheist, just questioning some of their statements). And - who cares anyway? Why would you not allow them to marry each other? As for me, voting NO would be a pure spite. Just my opinion
/facepalm in our country we call that a domestic partnership we have laws that allow same sex people to get the benefit of their partners. In the Bible, the forefathers Isaac and Jacob married cousins and Abraham married his half-sister. This was to strenghten familial bonds... It was not sacred. To further this unsanctity, although marriage was legally or sacramentally recognized between just one man and one woman, until the 19th century, men had wide latitude to engage in extramarital affairs,

Your not going to change what they belief .
