WHPR [Day 992] A New Administration and a New Set of Problems
James S. Brady Press Room
Greetings America. Pardon us for not releasing this soon enough but if you have not heard, eRepublik has been attacked for the last few days by hackers, causing Hungary to be wiped by Romania among many other terrible, terrible events. That said, heed this warning;
DO NOT CLICK ON ADS NOR READ EVERY ARTICLE YOU SEE
That may be a lot to ask for (especially the last part) but unless you want a Polish hacker to be inside of your account and do things to you, follow this advice. Also, articles cannot have images in them as a counter-measure to the hacking thus no beautiful images created by Max Wallingbottom will be included. That said; our President would like to update you a bit in our Daily Blurb.
“Sup America. I have been advised not to log in due to all the hackings but am still delegating and working to get things done. Surprisingly, it’s much more difficult considering all the circumstances, but regardless, I’m still trying to get things done. We discovered that in the New Citizen Message I proposed, a quotation mark was left out causing the message to be cut and this will be fixed on the next proposal. We’ve also ran into another bug with Poland and India since we can no longer trade with them due to the Resistance Wars in Karnataka and California. I’m sure this will be fixed soon. Stay safe America and I hope to have more news for you soon.
Love Krems”
Transitioning into a new administration is difficult and things move slowly for the first few days and with all this fun stuff happening, it may take a bit longer to fully update everyone with what is happening within the administration. But, we’ll try and update you with as much as we have done.
• The Economic Council (or EC) is nearly ready with Publius leading the charge along with other key economic minds within our country. If the EC gets a working server to work with the API (due to the API being full retard as well), they hope to have a tax model out by the end of the week.
• Greene12 has been working with the Department of Defense and has set up civilian mass attacks for 18:00 eRepublik time. A mass attack is when a group of citizens all attack at the same time. It is what makes the military/militias powerful in V2 and they work by using IRC and to access the IRC channel, click this link. He also released an article here.
• Tom McDougal is working on creating a baby boom from possible websites by finding sites with communities that would possibly find this game entertaining and stay. If you believe you have a site worthy of his attention, PM him. Name is Tom McDougal, I repeat, Tom McDougal.
• A new idea of creating a Secretary of State and a Minister of Foreign Affairs was done by this administration with the SoS handling the bureaucracy behind dealing with Foreign Affairs while the MoFA goes out and discusses with other countries and acts as an official liaison between the President and other countries. It allows more mobility for both and reduces a lot of work for one person.
• The Department of the Interior or DoI has set goals for the department which you can see here but the DoI is also looking for citizens willing to help out in the government and have a job and help with the goals posted above. A citizen applies here, gets accepted if qualified, then do some stuff that betters America. If you want to get started in the executive branch, start here.
Hopefully by tomorrow, the hackings will cease and eRepublik can return to its normal, buggy self without a person running the risk of being accessed without consent. Hopefully we will have more information/cool new stuff to update you with tomorrow but if not, I’m sure you understand.

mmhmmm.
This was great, Thanks to the Press Secretary for posting this briefing.
Apparently Im asst. QMG now 😛
Looks like an awesome cabinet!
God you guys are gay. Press Secretary??? HAHAHA!!!
nice work, Claire. I enjoy your funny articles, but I also appreciate seeing a frank explanation of what's happening in the Scrabman administration. Voted and subscribed.
Wonderful selection.
And Leroy Combs makes the selection awesome.
Though I will miss him as my Platoon Lt. I wish him luck as Secretary of defense.
So. The cabinet has been formed similar to The Nixon administration. There are Nixon style events happening right now. (Government secrecy, officials thieving). Awesome. Nixon
I missed the Nixon connection somehow..
Not blaming this on the president at all no inferences intended. Just saying, by coincidence, events are turning out to repeat history.
Congrats to Mr Wystan on the DoF appointment.
Voted and subscribed. 🙂
LOL@rockerman: were you around during the Nixon years? I was.
Nope. Not. Wasn't born for Nam, give you an estimate of my age: My dad was in Nam. Another clue: ill be in Korea soon, where my grandfather fought. Don't assume I have no clue.
I know what to do about Portugal. Also, contracts should be used to deter future thefts.
Claire,
Congrats on Press Secretary! This is great to keep the public informed.
Voted and subbed!
Not a bad cabinet...some are the exact same as what I would have picked.
Stay classy, MoDog. Isn't it time you followed your frat-brother ghvandyk on the long walk to eRep oblivion?
Like the Press Secretary idea and updates. Keep this up for a better eAmerica!
are you f*!#@*$ serious ? NOT VOTED! NOT SUBSCRIBED!
Definetely some great picks here, it shall be a pleasure to watch this administration progress through the term.
Voted.
I'll pose a question: Regarding the recent theft, it seems a consolidation of control/power/authority of the coffers is in order; are there plans in the works to this effect?
Mr. Wickman,
I refer you to Item 3 listed above. By implementing more authority upon the SIC, we will have more control of where the funding is going and who has control of it. The steps to ensure that an event like this doesn't happen again are beginning to come into place. It is very difficult with current game settings to give a solid 100% that this won't happen again, but the government is working to make that percentage as close to 100% as possible.
~Claire Littleton, Press Secretary
having the military commanders in charge of when money goes is a silly idea. It's like placing the ability to authorize money payments in the hands of those that would receive it.
Once, again...
Why am I not in your cabinet?!
No vote!!
Voted and Subbed. Press Secretary FTW. Hours and hours on the forums = FAIL.
This is a good idea. One of the things that made the last presidency so frustrating was the total lack of information.
Nice first report, Madame Secretary.
Voted and subbed.
"It is important to have a mechanism to send money to the military that is outside of the in-game voting. In-game voting takes at least 24 hours to be enacted, and when we respond to an attack, we need to act faster than that. Also, it is often necessary to act faster than 24 hours when doing other operations." - Hokiehigh
I may be new here (25 days), but this seems a little funny to me. Could someone please enlighten me on how this would work. It seems to me that there are some congressmen that only go on the eRepublik website (it should be their right to fully enjoy the game to every extent without having to leave the site). How would they have a say in this without altering their agenda? A congressman should be able to vote on any proposal without leaving the site. Also, the 24-hour rule is in place to make sure that all active congressmen can vote easily. I think this is an important feature that keeps people from passing bills at a certain time so that they don't get many votes against. This is just my opinion and I am in no way attacking the President, just a policy.
@gbpacker - Here is the scenario by way of example: Norway and Finland are both members of our alliance and our friends. They technically are at "war" because they have war games going on for training and economic stimulus. Hungary PTO's Norway and attacks for real. This attack is unexpected. In order to support our allies, Finland, we need funds from the Treasury to be donated to the Marines Quartermaster. The Marines have to given orders to request weapons. The MQMG then needs to purchase and donate weapons and tickets to 83 Marines. Meanwhile the 24 hour clock on the battle for Finland is ticking. If we wait for 24 hours for Congress to vote on each expenditure, the 24 hour for the battle of Finland has passed. We have failed in our mutual defense obligations to our allies.
Not all expenditures by Congress are time sensitive, such as the purchase of Hospitals and Defense Systems or the funding of Meals on Wheels. The purpose of a unified Military budget is to have Congress approve set funding for military operations in advance. The QMG's of each branch will make periodic reports on expenditures. The benefits of this are that the military leaders can actually plan based on available funding and there is no need for the crisis to crisis demand for money and time-pressured procurement and distribution of equipment to our military.

"even though we need secrecy, the congress, and the citizens need to know eventually where the money went, well where most of the money went...."
wait..Authoritorian much Mr. Scrabman... I don;t trust you guys THAT much yet...
150 G for new Tail pipe on Presidential Motorcade
350 G for New toilet in the Oval Office
100 G For New golden plunger to go with the New toilet.
I'm actually for this but I just don't trust you that much to hold that kind of power, I see you are well respected around here but I'm just being critical. Meh, It's being handled good enough with the clauses I guess.
LOL!
Love it Claire. Scribed, voted.
Very nice, subscribed!
Navy 2 is such a douche
I thought Ssomo was on the EC?
Great article Claire. Press Secretary was a great idea. It would be great if you or someone else could to some editorializing ie: commentate on how the scrabman administration is doing (personally i like what i see)
@Perrin: This is the Official Press from the White House, therefore there is no editorializing. This is the Official statement of the President and his administration.
Now, if you want editorializing and criticism on the administration and the President, I suggest you check out my paper and it's comments: "A Little Claire-ification." I've seen you there, so I know you're a reader. Over there on that paper I don't hold back on my Freedom of Speech, even in regards to the WH.
@Alphamega3's: This was the list handed down to me. First thing tomorrow, I will check on this. Thank you for the question. I will edit the article if there are additions and also comment here.
@Everyone Else: Thank you for your support and all the kind words. I would personally like to thank PrincessMedyPi for being one of the first to come up with the position of Press Secretary and I would like to also thank Scrabman and his Chief of Staff, Tiacha, for giving me this opportunity. I would also like to thank Hokiehigh for his help in setting up this Organization "The James S. Brady Press Room." Everyone has been very helpful in setting up this new paper, "The Briefing Room."
I hope you guys picked someone trustworthy to take care of the treasury this time 😉

This is stupid, Education secretary? Is blagojevich going to be secretary of state?
@Osama (you are not worthy enough to be called Barack) -- The Secretary of Education is a vital post in the administration since they will be responsible for our citizens' knowledge of the game.
When you first joined you may have been fortunate enough (or not) to find out a bit about this game however this is not the case for all newbies. The Education Secretary's role is to ensure that these people are well aware of the mechanics behind the game so that they make the most out of their elife and at the same time, help this nation.
I am not sure how Brasky will go about doing his job, however I presume mass PMing will be involved. I'm not sure about you, but that is a very strenous and tedious task. I would think twice before calling it "stupid".
Bill Brasky has done a lot of work from the DoE and I'm positive he'll do excellent work as its head.
No one helped me at all you call that effective education. How is it tedious, it's a game for Christ's sake.
Ok, well you try PMing masses of people whilst your favourite TV show is on. It's pretty damn hard, this role requires someone who is willing to make some sacrifices with regard to their free time.
You only joined 2 days ago, this administration was created at around the same time. Brasky is no super hero, educational initiatives don't just magically appear..Give it some time 😉
Yet one more reason why I voted for you.
@McDonnell Douglas: I agree with in a way however, what if someone in charge of the "voting" in the forums uses their power to start a vote that favors them that no one in their right mid would vote for? If he/she starts it at the right time, no one would stand against it unless they are on at 2 am. And if you play this game at 2 am, im sorry, but that is truly sad. I'm not saying that anyone now in office would do that, but it could happen.
@Thomas.Anderson: "with regards to free time" , this game is free time. This isn't like work. I'd just like to make one thing clear: THIS IS A GAME, your work, studies, reliogion, etc. should be above that in the priority rankings. No disrespect indended
