Where's The Fun
Artela
I was replying on someone else's article about the fun no longer being in this game, and then I thought the comment deserved its own article with a little more flesh added to it, so here we are.
I can remember the days when defense teams were up for 36 hours straight trying to prevent country wipes and throwing everything they could at fighters to fight... those days are now long gone.
The first of the problems I think is that gradually, in the quest to make the game more mobile-friendly, it has turned more and more into a game designed for "log in twice per day and click a few times" and not a game that actually has any depth any more...
The political module got dumbed down (no more mayors etc,) and then dumbed down more (no more running for specific places for congress), and then dumbed down even further (just sign up to a list and maybe you'll get into Congress if the PP puts you high enough up the list... no actual work involved in trying to win over the people of a region any more!).
The military module having been through lots of various changes now only requires you to choose a battle, choose a side, make sure you have food and energy bars to hand, and then set off the thing to autoclick. The thrill of having to be there against other players to actually fight... all gone.
There is nothing about the mechanics of this game any more that actually *requires* engagement. And that right there is the first problem in a nutshell - the simpler they made it the less invested people have become.
The second problem, looking from a national perspective, is that we no longer have pride in our nation. In the old days we would have been mortified at the idea of not owning half our nation, of not controlling our own destiny. Now it seems our alliance says "bend over" and we just go "how deep?". Why should anyone have pride in the achievements of the past, or aspire to a bright future, if we can't achieve anything in the present? And how boring that it's all compromise over resources and nothing more, a mere business transaction. No wonder people left in droves!
So, just putting my thoughts out there. Feel free to discuss in the comments

So happy someone write about it! the sad main problem is that the commuinty has been gone
I really hope and wish that the commuinty will become active again and more people will sign up like the old days
But the sad fact is that i know it won't happen 🙁

Even being a member of Congress has been dumbed down, too. Largely its just rubber stamping whatever the exec says to do.
Agree 100% on Political Module. It used to be so important to gain followers, supporters, future voters... now it just simply does not matter.
Military module is even worse today. Nothing really matters. Endless farming/unimportant Training wars that none really cares about. There is No more staying up till early hours of the morning for that vital military push against the enemy.
No more legendary fight for Heilongjiang (also known as “Hello Kitty”), it was a very important region in eRepublik V1 (due to its high-iron resource and huge number of companies). For almost a year this region was under Hungarian occupation, which ended on day 891. In the final hour of the battle a sustained and coordinated attack of a large number of "tanks" (very powerful soldiers) brought the 1,2 million points wall to -700,000 in “conquered zone”, and kept it about so for another half an hour. Of course, meanwhile the defenders tried hard to regain the control, but this time the expeditionary forces sent to liberate Heilongjiang proved stronger. A total of 6,361,885 damage was inflicted by 3167 unique soldiers, most of that damage being dealt in the final moments.
In the old days, Core regions of every country were sacrosanct. Even small countries fought to get their regions back. Now countries sell/rent their regions.

Yep. That's the one... and no Autoclick. Those are individual clicks. Also, usually only of 5-10 hits per citizen (more hits if you wish to spend Gold on extra hits)
I remember it embarrassingly well. I was there with my sad little hits watching the wall and waiting to throw myself against it, half expecting the headless chicken to thwart us all. Those "tanks" were like giants from my vantage.
Back when having Q5 hospitals was a big deal
I fought in that battle - im in the youtube video somewhere. It was great.
The war module is different now. Every round gets points. Can't just fight at the end like in the past.
Now, what wins battles is staying up and fighting for 18+ hours straight, instead of coordinating many people to show up at once.
I will never forget the push to get every active account on earth into Karnataka.
This is what the eRepublik looks like, when the past and the present meet.
NO. This is what eRep looks like when past is forgotten and Visa rules.
Visa card had/has a great influence on the game, now a few Croatians are missing to disturb the peace. 😃

Sadly, this is true.
Very few people play the game, you simply can't run for 50 separate seats, it's not tenable.
As for what is "fun", I actually think it's more fun to strategically be part of an alliance where we strategically choose to use our cores in a way that helps our allies than to, let's say, for example, use a term in office starting a war where the eUS gets wiped for the next several months. Speaking as someone who was CP during one of those "next several months"
What you propose is not fun, it's just grind. There is no thrill in grind. There is no pride in grind. There is no fun in grind. If you want grind go be an accountant!
Oh, and in those "next several months" (if you are referring to one of my stints), everything was set up to go with the people we were "fighting against" if only people this side had kept talking with them... When I came back to help Josh a few months later that's all it took... talking with them 🙂
You are forgetting
The challenge of solving Captchas
Dealing with climate change - never know when there will be a sudden cloud flare
Having to be prepared for the surprise csrf attack
The anticipation of waiting for the soon to be delivered city elections
ROFL. Soon to be delivered city Mayor elections were announced years ago. I also am holding my breath in anticipation.... not.
An excellent reply that has more focus on the mechanical problems of the game as well. I think we collectively can make this more fun if we start doing more variety in our engagements and governments.
Nothing brings people together better than something to be proud of, real achievements, not grind grind grind!
