The Sleep of Reason Produces Monsters

Day 2,442, 14:07 Published in Russia Russia by Ministry of Foreign Affairs RU

This month Russia has faced two powerful blows from top countries: first an airstrike from Romania and an argentinian attack few days ago. And both of these attacks were repulsed with heavy losses to the attackers.

Since the collapse of TWO, which was a hostile alliance to Russia, we haven't been directly involved in the confrontation of it's two successors - Asteria and Sirius, mostly cooperating with our verified and reliable friends in Aurora and Asgard. So, in terms of skilled alliance-builders, one could conclude that we were «neutral». Both major alliances at various times endeavored to involve Russia to their sphere of interests, but we deemed it right not to give advantage to any of the fighting parties.

Until this month.
First there was a romanian airstrike. After the airstrike law was proposed we had a meeting with some members of the romanian government (and concurrently of Asteria HQ) in an attempt to figure out their motives. They were very reticent and we failed to understand what they really want from us. According to some of their hints I now guess that their idea was to realise a plan that already proved to be successful against such countries as Portugal, Brazil, France: to wipe a country, force it to deposit a pledge to the invader for the return to the map (optionally), force it to change sides. That's why our reaction was rapid, decisive and unambiguous - to cooperate with Sirius. As a result Romania was defeated and totally wiped. (For a short period of time, of course. It's almost impossible to wipe such a country for long) The romanian airstrike ended in a complete fiasco.

After a while, Asteria made a second attempt. First Argentina airstriked Georgia and then launched a direct attack on Russia (instead of an expected by many swoop on a Polish gold mine). Again an attack was unexpected, unprovoked and this time the aggressor didn't even bother himself with any diplomacy.
The result was the same - a fiasco.

Of course we wouldn't be able to achieve this without a huge help of our allies - old and new. Many of them are personally mentioned in our president's article following the results of the battle.

I would also like to thank all the fighters who made this victory possible.

Special thanks to our partners in Pacifica:
dmjohnson - for an express loan for military purposes
Wild Owl - for organising a liberation movement in argentinian-occupied regions of the World
casadeli - for the tanks donated to supply the fighters on #usa.supply
john nwp - for arrangement of the supply on #usa.supply
... and to our friends in Sirius:
Arrlo - for generous Combat Orders in the decisive moments of the Battle which played not only military but also psychological role against the enemy's spirit
Pierre Dzoncy, urban cohort, Sarandir - for outstanding military cooperation

Thank you Pacifica!
Thank you Sirius!
Thank you Aurora!
Thank you Asgard!
Thank you Root!
I would also like to thank all those players from Serbia and Brazil who fought on our side. We appreciate your help!

So what are the strategic results of this month's events for Asteria?
1. Two wasted airstrikes
2. Romania defeated and wiped
3. Argentina defeated and lost fullset
4. Alliance gets a new enemy instead of a neutral country
5. Long-term efforts of some asterian members to improve their relations with Russia are nullified. Really, when common Serbian players will again ask me why do our countries have no MPP, my answer will be because of your «allies» and those who support them in your government. Serbia, which was the founder and the main driving force of Asteria, is now forced to adjust to it's friends' bankrupt policy. How long will common Serbian players tolerate such a situation when their so called «allies» solve their own problems at the expense of Serbia?

Anyway this does not concern us anymore. We do not want to have anything in common with the monsters.
