The April Rising and its Aftermath

My dear eIrish comrades,

The past few days something extraordinary took eIreland by storm. After months of debilitating occupation, mismanagement, and abuse of our community we have thrown off not only the foreign oppressors but also the domestic oppressors! From this day on the insurrection shall be remembered as "The April Rising" and that it was led by Sluagh, but made possible through the efforts of several military units and the eIrish masses. Never forget that it was a collective effort of the eIrish people. Together we overthrew a tyrannical dictator whose actions revealed the sham of a 'democracy' we lived under for far too long. Now eIreland's destiny is in the hands of the eIrish people - but how do we seize this great opportunity?

For some the eIrish Revolution is already over. We met the 3 immediate goals of the Revolution that were: the replacement of Nogin as Dictator with Sluagh, the abolition of the Constitution, and the abolition of Congress. Remember that these were the immediate aims - not the final. It is precisely this moment that we'll witness the difference between the revolutionaries and the opportunists. The opportunists never saw this Revolution as anything more than a coup, they only wanted to replace the Dictator then go back to their merry 2-clicking ways. Their logic is "the battle is over, now we can quiet down and let the government do what it needs to" - we need to combat this behavior now or we risk the future of the Revolution itself. In the previous two weeks we've seen an average of 6-10 articles in the media on a daily basis; as I write this one there is only 5. The majority of them are set to disappear later today, leaving only 1 article besides mine. The Revolution doesn't end after the April Rising, this is where it truly begins.

Some will say we need to put on the brakes of this Revolution or else we won't have enough time to recuperate from our losses due to Nogin robbing the State's assets. I say there is no better time to restructure our political and social system (along with our military forces) than right after displacing the former regime. What do we mean when we propose a radical restructuring of eIreland?

Destroy the Congress, establish the Dublin Commune - After Sluagh's reign (as Dictator) which surely won't last more than a month or two, we do not return to living under any dictatorship. The Dictatorship was necessary to destroy the Congress, Constitution, and breaking up the oligarchy and its influence in our political system. The Congress was part of the problem before the Rising. Establish the Dublin Commune in its place. In-game it will function similar to that of Congress but allow for more mass participatory direct democracy. Every eIrish citizen is allowed to be a member of the Commune, every eIrish citizen is allowed a vote, and the role of 'congress members' who will now be known as "delegates" are only elected to enforce the democratic will of the Commune! Thus greater participation of the eIrish community, more power into the hands of the community through direct democracy, and more opportunity for community engagement in politics and balancing political power. This will radically transform eIreland's political system and truly make it unique among all eNations of the New World!

Create incentives for article writing, spaces for social interaction, and provide creative entertainment - Sluagh has mentioned that he would provide incentives for people who publish quality articles. That is a fair step in the right direction. We need spaces for our community to come together, possibly even outside of the game. Anyone remember eIrish Radio? Well there is a site called Dubtrack.FM that can provide space for exactly that - perhaps the Minister of Community could get on creating a new eIrish Radio station? Let's look for alternative ways to interact with each other and sometimes forget about eRepublik and create genuine relationships with each other on more than just a "I play eRepublik too" basis.

The eIrish Revolution must not falter now - we must carry it to even greater heights than we have already achieved. If we want eIreland to continue on the path towards not only revitalization, but prosperity, than it is imperative that we maintain the revolutionary struggle! From now on our enemies won't be an easy target to point to, we will blur the lines between what is practical and what can be achievable if we only try a little harder, if we devote just 10-30 minutes more of our time, and the path towards our social transformation will be riddled with obstacles set by those who fear change. The Irish Revolutionary Front is determined to see not only the fulfillment of a political revolution, but a social revolution. We do not wish to return to the days when logging on felt like a chore rather than have it fill you with excitement just to see what will unfold tomorrow. In order for genuine change in our politics, the well being of our nation, we must also seek change in our society. Creativity and fun fosters active communities, active communities grow into strong communities, and strong communities become strong nations.

Hail the eIrish Revolution!
