Some history of Finland for the Uninitiated

Day 2,716, 06:06 Published in Finland Finland by Severih

At first there was Kvenland, which was ruled by legendary moose riding female warrior giants. According to their sagas, Norway was established by giant prince named Norri from Kvenland (perhaps he escaped from his wife). Kvenland was very scary and frozen kingdom in the north. Many old texts mention Kvenland. In the end the last giants disappeared, but some of us still carry their blood in our veins. Near my summer residence, there is a place, where folk tale tells, that giant ones lived. There is a huge 40 meters high closed stone door in a small rocky mountain and it's said to be waiting for the return of that giant.

After the fall of Kvenland and it's giant rulers around year 700, there came the rise of Tavastia. It started as a small kingdom, but later on terrible Pirkka-warriors were the terror of everyone. In fact, when the age of Vikings came, that was the only place, where they were too scared to go. Archeological Viking age findings you can find as much from Tavastia, then from everywhere else from nordic countries. That tell's us it's own story; that Pirkka-warriors were somehow able to get as many riches as Vikings to their Kingdom.

Then there was of course Karelia and few hundred kilometers of enviromentally protected forest land around it. If somebody dared to build his house to there and cut the trees, they burned the house down and killed everyone. Sometimes they also attacked to surrounding people even more far away. The life style was that you lived in unheated small cottages year around, men went to hunting and war trips and women mostly took care for the farming. Karelians were known to be extremely skilled warriors and completely superior in forrest warfare. The best sniper in human history is karelian named Simo Häyhä with at least 505 recorded kills in winter war (part of WW2).

Which leads us to more modern day history, winter war. Finland was the only country ever to stop the attack of the Soviet Union and she did it without any allies. At that time all the Soviet forces were attacking Finland and we the small nation with of only 5 milloin population stopped them cold blood.

In modern day Finland we have one of the biggest armies in Europe, every child knows how to ski and altough the weather is mostly deadly cold, we are used to that. But what separates our army from other armies, is that according to research in most armies their soldiers mostly don't shoot to kill (it's not in human nature to kill other fellow human beings). In finnish army it's the opposite around. Here men think war more like going to the hunting trip. Their goal is to kill someone with every shot they fire. That's what really makes the difference.

Can you see the scary look? She would kill without second thought.

For those who are interested about most crazy battles in human history, I really recommend to take a look to Battle of Raate Road in Wikipedia.
