Sinister Forces: eAmerican Politics and the AFA

Day 1,924, 05:24 Published in USA Canada by New Faustian Man

I PM'd Luis Sentiero to get his take on an article I'd wrote, and I got this response:

So I'm writing this article to answer many of his concerns, as well as put right many of the inaccuracies and/or gross embellishments in his criticism of the AFA.

*

First of, to his "so you're saying that just because someone has done millions of damage for USA it means they should be legitimized?"

"Legitimised"? By whom? No one playing this game has to be "legitimized" by anyone else. Politics by its nature is confrontational, pitting people against one another, so seeking legitimisation by your opponent: where's the logic in that!? And its an enormously unhelpful conceit that anyone has the moral high-ground in the politics of the eUS, something that wouldn't be so often peddled if people knew the history of the place. And tarring nearly one thousand people [ the combined membership of the AFA and The Shoe People ] over what a single person has supposedly done -- how can anyone condone that?

*

Second, no I'm not precisely saying because someone has done millions of damage for USA it means they should be legitimized, I'm saying because someone has done millions of damage for the USA that makes them a valuable member of this community, and as far as I'm concerned trumps any RL association a player has with eUSA. Not that the latter should ever be taken into account anyway. As such, the onus should be integrating and actively encouraging players who'll contribute to the eUS on the battlefield -- no matter that they're Serbian, Macedonian, Korean, Hungarian etc.

*

The Doctor also says: "I'm condemning their political actions which is way different."

RGR started the PTO'ing? I was under the impression that started back in 2010, and it was his parties that were the repeated victim. Hypocrisy much?

*

"How would you feel if a certain party would be always trying to use schemes in order to harm the nation?"

"Schemes"? That's politics in Erepublik though isn't it? Your decrying something that the mechanics of this game allow, and that anyway was started by the side you support. Its not even as if any of the 'official' parties are based on actual ideology anyway, they're just little groupings of players united by self-interest, so its not like some political ideology is being made the victim of. No party are genuine fiscal conservatives, or liberals, or marxists or whatever, so claiming they're somehow sacrosanct is basically just claiming the members of these parties are in some way superior to newer parties or their members. And the only motivation behind that is because they've "been around longer", which is a very weak argument.

I'm an old Libertarian Party member, around late 2010 and into 2011, back when it was the largest party in the eUS. Pizza once threatened us with a PTO if memory serves lol. All part and parcel of the political module if you ask me, and I certainly didn't take it personally or blow it way out of proportion, and nor did our then leader. Other than being amused by it, the then leadership understood it as 90% bluff anyway. Though no doubt it paid off on a few occasions. People may not like that brand of 'Machiavellian' politics, fine, but it helps to focus on the fact that this is a much better reflection of RL politics were parties will use any means to get elected and undermine the opposition. The form of government normally practised in the eUS, were cabinets are formed of members of various different parties, is more akin to a one-party state than a true democracy.

*

"Do you want to talk about Dan Wang aka CerbisWar?"

Dan changing his name to Cerbiswar was just FUNNY, seriously laugh out loud funny, and still is! It was very amusing on the day and if your gonna get bent out of shape about stuff like that it just seems silly. It was unlikely to really work in any case lest we forget.

*

"Do you wanna talk about you guys creating a 2nd party and move people to it just to kick off another party from the top 5 to serve your purposes?"

Yes, this needs covered. What you describe as some sort of underhand strategy to serve some dark purpose was actually a genuine move by the founders of, as they're known today, The Shoe People to start a new party in the eUS that would represent their interests. BASICALLY THAT'S HOW ALL PARTIES IN THE REAL AND e-WORLD OPERATE AND ALWAYS HAVE DONE. You may not like the fact that a new party has formed in the eUS that's not subservient to the ruling cabal in the eUS. But that's tough luck! No one has the right to dictate whether a party is "legitimate" or not, with the exception if they were spewing racial, ethnic or sectarian hate etc. In this case: they're not. Its the reverse: they're being targeted and victimised because they're Serbs and they threaten the little power-structure ruling in the eUS. Period.

*

"Do you want to talk about the hordes of multis Ajay aka Ronald Gipper Reagan created in the past and he still creates around despite the fact he denies it? Do you even know how many times he got banned?"

"Hordes of multis" is just lol. I'm not going to ask for proof because I know you don't have any, because I know its non-existent. Yes he's been banned before, so have a lot of people. I doubt he ever had "hordes" of multis though, your just making that up.

*

"What about the past rogue proposals that used to block the CBO donations, the alliances and the NEs?"

Again this is politics. In a democracy there's a separation of powers between the executive and legislature, and its there for a reason: a check against either becoming too powerful. So -- for example -- say the executive maliciously tried to ignore and do everything in its power to block the largest party in congress from partaking in the political life of the country -- that party would have at its disposal the means to upset the sound working of the government, "rogue proposals" being one such tactic. Politiking on the floor of congress is how it works in real life -- unfortunately the AFA and all its members are barred from that 'privilege', forcing us to represent our huge voter-base in other ways. Complaining and bitching that you's aren't getting it all your own way whilst also practising a policy of exclusion against the largest party in the eUS is ludicrous!

*

"While I do agree not all the people in AFA are like its leadership and not all participate in these schemes, I have to say you guys would be better off without some of them. The government has been always open to talk."

I disagree. No one's about to dictate to us who we have as members or who we should be associating with. And attempting to blackmail us with this and using it as a condition for our acceptance into the "mainstream" will never work.

I should add my own take on life in the AFA.

I've found everyone to be always very friendly and willing to help if it was ever sought. There's no bitching or backstabbing, and no big egos that have to have it their own way. And there's a real culture of tolerance in the party itself, nobody's a 'Serb' or a 'Macedonian' or 'Irish' -- we're all AFA, and we communicate as eAmericans, irrespective of where we're from in RL. That we also have ZERO of the annoying little adolescent American role-players that are always so irritating to deal with, is also a massive plus. What we have is this great cosmopolitan party, pursuing what I consider refreshing policies, and which bends-over-backwards to reward activity! You couldn't ask any more from the people, the party or its leadership.

Its EASILY the best party I've ever been associated with in this game.

No BULLSHIT - and loads of LULZ

In AFA We Trust : )
