SFP and the Holy Grail: Wrap Up
Caute
It's been a hell of a couple weeks IRL. Even minutes prior to when the event was set to start there was still work to be done IRL, and to top it I'd been off color the past few days and was still working on some antibiotics. So admittedly, yours truly, wasn't really feeling up to hosting the event.
However this had been planned for a few weeks, and I'd be damned if I was going to let the people who were looking forward to the event or who had encouraged me down. At our peak we had I think around 16 people... and in the end we ended up giving away over 90 gold, next time maybe we'll make it over the 100 gold mark.
Several generous comrades had contributed gold and CC to help bring people out to the event, but comrade Nick.Bergman was very charitable and generous with his giveaways throughout the event. Hell, he'd already donated a large chunk before the event even started. Although it doesn't come as much of a surprise that a socially minded socialist socialite would be charitable.
While this event was different from the first one and it didn't allow for quite as much time to chat, I didn't get as much one one one with some users as I would've liked, we still went over our time, so Lovely1992 proposed another film that gave me a little more time to give out more gold. In the end it was another fun event, even if I was a little under the weather.
Admittedly only one user appeared to have studied for the trivia portion of the event... and while I'm not sure where some users got their information about Arthurian legends, especially comrade J.A. Lake... ಠ_ಠ
*Ahem*
Some of it the answers suggested by users seemed, well, a bit off. While I pointed out one of SFP's media directors in particular, he certainly wasn't the only one. Although being Arthurian legend scholars never was the point.
Some people asked what were giving out gold for, why were we doing it, etc, and the real purpose of the event wasn't to give out gold, although we did plenty of that.
The purpose of the event was to bring users together, not just SFPers, but eRep players in general together to chat with one another and have fun.
While I'd like to think most everyone had fun... I'd also like to think we learned a few things. Things about important stuff like King Arthur's ratchet ho of a wife, the alleged resting place of King Arthur, Sir Gawain & the Green Knight (Beetle-Bread), that you can earn gold for breathing, and the value of cultural literacy (or the value of knowing Arthurian legend trivia on the off-chance a crazed lunatic obsessed with Arthurian legends is holding a gun to your head and asking you if you know the Green Knight's name and you survive based off that knowledge), just important life lessons really.

I know I've missed a few of you that made an appearance or supported the event and I apologize in advance. It's been a long day and I wouldn't be trying to type this now if it wasn't for insomnia.
(** Attended Both Film Events; there should be some sort of badge for this, dammit.)
Currently I'm debating on whether we should have another SFP movie night in Dec or Jan and whether we'll go back to a longer 'festival' or at least double feature type event or a single movie screening. The next theme might be sci-fi although I've been told that some users would like to see anime, so we'll have a strawpoll where you can vote on the next theme:

If you'd like to contribute or moderate the next event, PM me.
Unfortunately I didn't bring my A game tonight and while it still went off without a hitch, sadly I didn't really think to take screenshots until the end, so this isn't so much a highlight reel, as a few random screen grabs of the event for those of you who missed out on the grail and the gol😛
Well that's all for now.
V/R,
Nothos

Really awesome work Nothos. 16 people is damn impressive.
It wasn't that high the whole time though, hah. I still want to schedule one either much earlier or later for some players abroad. Was a blast all the same. o7
That was pretty awesome. I regret missing the first one.
As for theme, if I may make a suggestion, maybe do Star Wars next month in honor of the new movie being released? Still counts as Sci-Fi I think XD
I'm not huge on Star Trek, but that's a possibility, comrade. o7
Great job Nothos! You did really well. I would have never known you didn't bring your "A Game". Hope you're feeling better.
I'll be honest, I learned a lot last night about King Arthur. I also learned how painfully hard it is to type on a tablet using the on-screen keyboard while in bed half asleep. And I learned how slow I am at Googling things. All and all, I had fun and enjoyed everything and everyone. I can't wait to do it again. (Next time I'll use a computer with a keyboard; might be faster! 😉 )
Personally, I like cowboy movies, so I nominate a western movie. Perhaps "Cowboys vs Aliens" for those sci-fi buffs out there? Or "Wild Wild West" with Will Smith? ...Honestly, it doesn't matter to me. Pick a movie that everyone else wants to watch. I like all kinds of movies! 🙂
Thanks again, and I look forward to the next SFP Movie Meet & Greet!
Yeah, I can see how that might throw your response time a bit. There really is no perfect movie or something everyone will want to watch, but hopefully if it's a double feature, or if we throw in some short films or parodies, there might be a little something for everyone. There may be copies of your suggestions floating in the ether, I'll have a look-see. Thanks for coming out and showing your support, comrade. o7
great job thanks
Thanks for coming out and encouraging me to do it again, man. o7
i really enjoyed both of these events. thank you!
hope you're feeling A-1.
i already voted in the straw poll but skipped the write-in, maybe an international film fest sometime.
Definitely, an international or foreign film festival would be a lot of fun... honestly I'd like to do one with a focus on high-weirdness or oddities in general. Anything by Shion Sono or Takashi Miike would be awesome. Maybe something like 'Enter the Void' by Gaspar Noe, I uh, don't think everyone would appreciate all of his films. There's a lot to choose from outside of those directors ofc.
I'd also like to try timing one where players abroad could attend or maybe get a sister project started by an international player.
I'm sure I'll be back to baseline in a few days and thanks again for your support and encouragement for these events too, Rainy. o7
