Hello all!

Firstly I would like to remind you all that you can still vote for this months Royal Family Prize. The nomination period ended last thursday, and the voting period will go on until this thursday, when in a special announcement the winner will be announced.

If you haven’t been following, I have began a monthly community award rewarding people who work hard for the eUK. Each month nominations open followed by a voting period, and the winner gets a royal title of their choosing from myself, and join me as a member of the ‘royal family’. (They get a briefcase full of cash too but thats not as exciting) Last months winner was Emergy Maxfell, and this months nominees are:

My hope is that the award encourages people to take part in the eUK community whilst rewarding the unsung heroes of the nation. Please vote in the poll here, and help circulate through shouts or any group PM’s. Every little helps!

Candidacy

For over a year now I have avoided political appointments and running in elections to allow new blood to seep through and get involved. This month I am breaking that rule in order to push for Congressional reform. The goings ons of Congress are something I have been vocal about for a very long time, but recently I feel Congress has again slipped into being an inclusive institution unaware of it’s role in eUK politics. As such I have candidated myself as a Congressmen with three broad aims: To help develop and disseminate the PCP platform by creating an open and fair Congress; To discuss as a Congressmen the role of Congress and it’s responsibilities, and to encourage activity and a pro-active approach to Commons; And lastly, in lieu of these two points to establish and ratify some ‘guiding principles’ that Congressmen should aim to embody.

It is very important for Congress to remember it’s place in eRep, and this is something which in the eUK ebbs and flows depending on activity and how boisterous the president is. The current arrangement that has persisted in the eUK is that Congress is the cash-cow to the CP, and is subservient to them. This is wrong. Elitism is not an invisible entity in the eRep, its observable presently in our institutions, (part due to game mechanics and part due to game culture) which actively promote elitism in the eUK - simply because the distance between the CP and the Citizenry is widened by an inactive Congress. Congress’ principal role, at least in my eyes, is to bridge the gap between people and politicians - to represent citizens in holding the government to account. That has been seriously lacking recently, as Congress has only flexed its muscles in response to serious wrongdoings (thefts etc.) instead of acting as a constant scrutinising body, which acts as an intermediary between the people they are elected to represent and the CP. As such presidents haven’t been subject to the checks and balances that they should be, and have been at liberty to do what they please. In an ideal government, Congress exist as a mechanism of accountability and continuity, a regulatory body which represents to electorate in keeping cabinet in check.

That’s the Congress I want to promote. That’s why I want to make Congress open and fairer, and importantly more visible. That’s why we need to remind Congress of what it is meant to be doing, and get written in the stone some standards that we expect of Congress - that’s what we owe the people who vote us in. That is why I have decided to run for Congress, to remind the House what it is meant to be doing, and to try and leave something behind that will keep Congressional standards high. I firmly believe doing so will create a better eUK. If I am elected, I will work with the speaker to keep the public regularly updated on what is going on in Congress and help create a system of checks and balances on Congress itself, to try and encourage more activity as well as establishing and passing some guiding principles for future Congressmen.

I hope fellow candidates from both PCP and other parties will agree and join me on my crusade!
