Remembering Pearl Harbor: 72 Years Later

Day 2,209, 02:23 Published in USA USA by Ronald Gipper Reagan

I thought it was worth writing an article to mark the anniversary of this day. While it was one of the saddest days in American history, where thousands of Americans lost their lives, and our mighty Pacific fleet was crippled, it also symbolizes great courage and defiance on behalf of our country and its people. Not only was our entrance in to the Second World War absolutely pivotal in destroying the Japanese Empire and Nazi Germany(too bad we didn't take the Soviets down too, but that's another story), but many more Americans would give their lives on foreign soil for the freedom of others. There is nothing that means more to the spirit of this nation than that.

As the years roll by, it saddens me to know that as goes the passage of time, so goes the greatest generation. I used to question this term and whether it was true, but there is no more doubt in my mind today. The generation of that era was clearly far superior in quality to what we have today. I wish we could bring that back. There was a time when being an American was truly something to unquestionably be proud of, where the very meaning and symbolism our flag was something worth dying for, and where freedom truly rang from sea to shining sea.

Also, I saw a movie called 'The Final Countdown' which I had never heard of until I came across it on Netflix recently. Kirk Douglas stars in it, so you should check it out. It involves Pearl Harbor and time travel, interesting stuff. Speaking of which, Kirk Douglas is going to be 97 on December 9th! He served in the US Navy during the war too, and is probably the last of that great generation of old-time actors still around. God Bless him, and all the other members of the 'Greatest Generation', and may we somehow learn from their example.

PS- Only cowards PTO other people's parties.
