Caesar is actually both a name and a title used by early emperors. Caesar did not mean emperor though. Emperors held the title of Augustus. Caesar was the title of an heir to the "throne".

The Romans lacked any pronunciation marks like we find in Spanish and instead is more like English where words like read have different pronunciations. For Example Caesar the title sounds different from Caesar the name.
