Of Kings and Presidents

Day 2,777, 03:06 Published in United Kingdom Canada by JQXZ

The United Kingdom is preparing for a very important election on the fifth of July this year. This is a presidential election, with two main contenders, Aaron Mark Daniels and King William the Great.

Aaron Mark Daniels is the leader of the Workers Rights Party, the fourth largest party in the United Kingdom. King William the Great is the leader of the UK Progression Party, the second largest party in the United Kingdom.

This newspaper doesn't really support the position of President, in it's usual form of head of state in a republic. In the eUK, however, we can imagine the president as a directly elected Prime Minister, whose position is second to that of our King, King Woldy.

I understand that the events that led to Woldy becoming king occurred long before my time, and that I therefore can't comment on them. I also understand that the vast majority of UK players recognise Woldy as the rightful king.

King William the Great claims that he, and not Woldy, is the rightful king. I can't see any way he can justify this stance. For a start, his account was created in 2015. Woldy was king long before William's account even existed! This means that there is only one possible (but illegitimate) way that William might be able to claim to be the rightful king. This is that he had a previous character that had a claim to the throne. Given my short time in eRepublik, I would be unable to comment on any previous character that existed years ago. It is, however, a generally agreed principle in most games that if old players return with a new character, they must not regain their old positions. They must instead work their way up from the bottom again. If this principle has not yet been adopted in eRepublik, it needs to be adopted right now.

The fact that King William the Great is continuing to claim to be the rightful king, despite copious evidence to the contrary, means that he is a dangerous candidate. We must not let him become President.

I understand some people have concerns that Aaron Mark Daniels is relatively inexperienced, having been in the game for less than a year. There is, however, plenty of evidence that he is experienced enough to be president. He runs one of the eUK's best newspapers, the Workers Journal. He has been leader of the Workers Rights Party for several terms, as well as being a member of successive congress's. His leadership of the Workers Rights Party has been impressive, with good work on a new manifesto and constitution, developed in partnership with other members. He has also been in the game longer than William.

This newspaper is guided in it's decisions by the principles of monarchism, inclusive democracy and respect for individual liberty, where this does not infringe on other peoples lives and cultures; and, above all, support for individuals over party loyalties.

The decision that this newspaper has come to, in the forthcoming election campaign, is to support Aaron Mark Daniels for president of the United Kingdom.

Aaron Mark Daniels for President!

God save King Woldy!
