Mistakes with Gold

Okay after about 6 days of playing eRepublik I must admit that I have made some mistakes and one of those I cannot seem to easily correct. Gold. It seemed so easy to come by in the beginning and I spent it just as easily... on stupid things like energy bars and health packs. I also bought a special forces training facility and spent some gold training. I had fun going on my gold spending spree until I read a post that said not to spend gold on all the stuff I had spent it on and I realized that the gold was not coming in as quick anymore and I needed it to build important things like weapons and food companies. Now 6 days in I only have 4 gold and I have not made any more for a few days and I do not know how to get more gold. I really want to upgrade my down centre and get another food company and weapons company but I can't because of my past mistakes regarding gold, it is a tragedy!

If anyone could tell me how to get some gold that would be greatly appreciated.
