Immigration Conflict
The controversy regarding immigration measures by has come to a head with a large argument in the Dáíl about current immigration policy, particularly surrounding RL Croatian citizens and friends of the former core membership of the Saoirse Party (now merged into Eire Aonair).

The debate has intensified after a eCroatian citizen, little Victoria, was refused immediate entry into eIreland, as one of her referrers claimed she had taken part in illegal political actions in eCroatia. This immediately caused a storm, with friends of the applicant complaining that the refusal was unfair. Claims of discrimination are being thrown around.

The Government's position has been that they have every right to refuse a person when sources provided say that a citizen-applicant is of doubtful character. The citizen seems to have been rejected by the Committee, but has been let in regardless.



Political Intervention:
The decision to reject little Victoria's application has lead to calls to open up immigration, as well as accusations of xenophobia. Claiming that eIreland will never be a big country unless we open our borders, Shield 72's article attacks unnamed players for propagandising about RL Croatians.



Opinion:
This controversy has two sides, impossible to separate from one another.

On one hand, you have government immigration policy, which MUST be designed to provide maximum security to the country, with growth being a secondary objective that has to be achieved within the context of security. eIreland being a big country with our sovereignty and self-determination destroyed would be pointless.

On the other hand, you have this feud. A massive fight between the kunts and the old Saoirse core, with the former being mostly RL Irish and the latter being mostly RL Croatian. Both sides have shown utter contempt for both the laws of eRepublik and the state of our democracy. Regardless of who has done the most damage, both are dangers.

The link between these two issues is simple. When either side vouches for a citizen applicant, our security is at risk. It doesn't matter what nationality someone is, if they are coming to eIreland to join one side or the other, they are a threat to national security. They would help in perpetuating conflict, that has brought eIreland to her knees in the past, and will undoubtedly do so again in future.

Ultimately, immigration shouldn't be in the hands of congresspeople. The game's citizenship system is near useless, and has been from its introduction. Allowing congresspeople the absolute power to increase their own political chances is idiotic.

Either way, the Government must try to restrain civil conflicts, because no one has the right to hold Ireland hostage on the basis of a personal vendetta.
