Fighting for Ireland

(or not)

While some of us took a long time to accept this, eRep is now primarily about fighting. Never giving up was the way to my successful military career. Sometimes patience is the key, sometimes the berserker mode!

We don’t get to fight for Ireland too often, or directly so at least. However, I like it so much here that I’m not going to go looking for other places from which to play soldier.

Whatever permits fighting for Ireland is good. The best option is for Ireland to be actively at war, including such goodies as Air Strikes. Whoever advocates this will nearly always get my vote, such as An Sluagh last month and Nyx Lynx this month.

However, this option is not always available. The next best thing is to be in a strong alliance, with plenty of fighting opportunities. There is something essential that goes with this, even though many people shy off at the expense. That is a good MPP stack. Keeping a small number of MPPs going, like four, is bad for the country. Our people get less opportunity to fight without costly moves to battle zones.

So whatever builds up the ordinary fighter is what we need. Strength building requires patience but rank building needs damage. You cannot hurry strength building except for the occasional reward. That is obtained by more fighting.

Now, there are some who criticise others for collecting mercenary medals. This is ridiculous. When True Patriot medals are unobtainable, what is wrong with collecting the gold you need to come even close to self-sufficiency?

We cannot fight for our allies all the time either. The way to bleed energy is to play sensibly. In order to work toward a mercenary medal, pay close attention to the campaign status for any battle you wish to join. The main point is not to damage Ireland or its interests and allies.

Pain-free mercenary medal hunting can be done by fighting for hopeless causes. Where one side has a very low damage level, say under 25%, and the battle is nearly over, there is no danger of hurting your country by fighting for an enemy. Likewise, a country with only a few domination points while its opponent is approaching 83 points is a good choice to add to your collection.

Don’t forget that fighting for an ally when the wall is high and the battle or campaign is already won does not make any special difference. Remember the old expression “gilding the lily”.

So think smart and fight smarter. Ireland will get stronger and you will become a better soldier.
