Edition 17: VP Jewitt and the PP Races

Day 688, 02:19 Published in USA USA by Devan Kronos

Welcome to another edition of the Anvil! All’s quiet on the western front…and the eastern…and the northern…what the hell is going on? That is what a lot of people are asking, the answer is the war is slowly dying out, but there will be plenty of flame ups till this is over. The next flare up looks to occur in North America, the US and Canada simply cannot ignore the Hungary occupied regions forever and the time is coming for a full scale offensive sometime in the foreseeable future. The Scandinavian front has gone quiet after the Russians were dealt a massive defeat. But onto other news, with the Presidential race over and Gaius Julius winning his re-election hands down, the race for Party Presidency is starting to heat up.

Forgive me but I will only be mentioning the top six parties otherwise this would be a mile long. This is a long article, but I simply ended up with more to put in than I expected, but it still should be rather illuminating. I also apologize if I mess up anyone’s name or job, I got tunnel vision at the end.

In the Libertarian Party, Daphne Lilac has announced that she will not be running for another term. The race at the moment appears to be between DanielCD and Canni, who has not signed up yet. DanielCD is currently the Libertarian Party VP and the current favorite of the race. Canni is currently a one term congressman and a prominent member of the party. Daphne has already announced her support for DanielCD, so this will be an interesting race to watch.

I would love to go into my party’s upcoming elections, United States Workers Party (USWP) but I have been asked not to. Details on what is going on will come out in the next few days anyways so keep an eye on Zcia’s paper. One thing I will mention though is that no one has yet to sign up, usually six or so people who apply for no known apparent reason, no one has yet to.

In all honestly I have no clue what is going on in the United Independents Party (UIP) PP race StygianSteel has yet to declare his candidacy while there is one other contender already. I have attempted to contact UIP but their IRC channel appears quiet and/or dead. To me it looks like StygianSteel will run again. But because I lack confirmation, for now I have to call this race as unknown.

Edit: This came out after I posted I believe

In the Conservative Party (CvP) there will be an extremely interesting race. Three prime candidates are running and it will be a flip up to see who wins this one. Desertfalcon has decided to run for one term but not another in November if one of his two competitors runs. Mattoze5 the previous PP before Raegan Taylor defeated him is running again, as well as Cromstar who has be Party VP several times and has been an advisor on the President’s cabinet. At the moment this looks like a very competitive three-way race.

The Federalist Party currently is holding their PP primary to decide who will be the candidates, currently it looks like CrashNBurn as well as citizenslave are currently the top contenders for the spot. CnB is the Feds current Political Director and two term congressman. The other contender is citizenslave, who is currently the Party VP, Federalist Outreach Program Director, and Federalist Business Manager. We will all see what’s going on when the primary results are released on October 11th.

I saved the best for last. 🙂 The American Advancement Party (AAP) PP race now looks as if it will be a very interesting one. The sitting Party President Mercurius100 is running for re-election, but the big news is who is running against him. I have recently learned from Tormod that he will be announcing his candidacy for Party Presidency of the American Advancement Party (AAP). This announcement comes after certain decisions that have tarnished the parties name and reputation, and managed to take the edge off a very large jump in membership.

In his words:

“I'm running because the reputation of the party has severely declined while we have drastically increased in membership, I aim to make us look like a clean, an organized party. Organization in the party (except for mass mailing) has been decent at best. I plan on reshaping the structure of leadership and repairing our image after "events", that occurred scorned our reputation.”

He also wished me to quote this:

“Reputation/Organization as well as "purification" sums it up.”

Tormod is currently a six term Congressman and Business Director; I have heard from several people in AAP that he has also taken responsibility over monitoring AAP Congressmen and Party Communication due to some inactivity from the current PP. Mercurius100 has been Party President since This past July and is running for a fourth term. That is very rare in major political parties; he is also a one term congressman. This race looks to be very interesting, while Mercurius100 has won past elections by landslides this one may not be so easy as he is facing a serious challenger.

We now come to my latest interview. We all know him from his Spartan-esque armor charging across the battlefield with President Gaius Julius and the secret service in tow. He is the operator of one of the fastest growing newspapers in America and started his own blog radio show. He is the three time Vice President of the United States, ladies and gentlemen Jewitt!

1. When and why did you first join eRepublik?
I joined on November 22nd, 2008. I forget the day, but I am sure someone could work it out. I was searching for an alternative to my long-loved NationStates.com game I used to roleplay on. I was looking for something more individual-based instead of nation-based. I was looking on Google and found a review of free online social-based games. I checked it out and found the http://www.techcrunch.com/2008/04/12/erepublik-combines-mmog-and-social-networking/>famous elevator pitch video which got me interested enough to at least sign up. Later on I would find out that a person I still look up to even to this day, Killing Time, also joined because of it.

2. What is it like to be Vice President, what do you do?
What is it like? I essentially am the workhorse behind the President! Not really. Ever since I took office, the Vice Presidency has not been the same. Within a day of being appointed I was essentially the President for a few days and then after that I never stopped. Gaius Julius and I go about the Presidency in an interesting way - we split the typical Presidential duties evenly to best suit our strengths. That is why I am always involved with domestic programs, the media, and foreign affairs with respect to Spanish-speaking countries. Oh, and the economy of course!

3. What is it like working with Gaius Julius?
It's great. Since he joined the game he and I have talked and shared thoughts on multiple things. He is a brilliant tactician when it comes to the globe and world affairs, and you can see that when he was Secretary of State and now as President. He's always a good second opinion and I like to think I am the same for him. We are true bro's and very good friends both in the game and out. I am sure anyone who has worked with him can say: Glad we have him as President.

4. Would you like to say anything to Woxan and Cerb about the election?
I always have a comment for everything. You're an amazing person, and I personally pushed for Emerick to place you as my successor in the Economic Council when I became Vice President because of who you are. You have both a sound mind and leadership material, so your running for the Presidency was actually a relief. Either way the election went, we would have had good people running the country. Cerb, you also are amazing - well spoken and quite assertive. You would had made an amazing Vice President.

5. What do you think of the dramatic fall of direct fighting around the globe?
I think it's terrible and a godsend to be honest. Without the war, it is allowing us to regain our treasury and recover our strategy. It also has allowed our enemies to get bored. Indonesia is lightly fighting itself in brushfire civil wars, Hungary is losing activity, and the Global Community is arguing from the inside out. Unfortunately, our people are also getting bored and also losing experience. We're looking into training battles soon enough to make up for this.

6. Who is your favorite RL President?
Would have to be a tie between Andrew Jackson (badass) and Mr. Polk himself (more badass). Mostly because of what they progressed to do for the Presidency with relation to Congress, and not so much their policies.

7. Who is your closest friend on eRepublik and why?
Gaius Julius. He was before the Presidency and he still is. He and I have been friends since around February (although I watched him grow as a potential star congressman in January) and we share a lot of information. Despite our in-game age difference, we often seek advice from each other since we both have our own little niches in the game and the social aspect of it. Oh, and we have a drinking game and we're keeping score for when we actually meet in real-life 😃

8. Are you and Tiacha eMarried? For the life of me I could find nothing about it anywhere 🙂
No, we are not e-marred. We are just very good friends and my heart goes out to her. Although there was this time where it was considered, but a misunderstanding led to her backing off 😛

9. Where do you stand on the issue of the third fortress state, where do you think it should be?
When the fortress state tactic was discussed first in February, I was among those opposed. As time went on, I became more and more against it. However, this war how shown its use although they were placed incorrectly. With California leading the way, that now leaves a third option for Texas, Pennsylvania, or my e-home state of Tennessee. That is still being discussed, but what is not being discussed is when we should plot down a third. I believe that when our population is able to handle anywhere between 2,000 to 3,500 person per fortress, we can then expand to a third. As overall strength increases throughout the world, this number of course will grow.

10. After being in the VP office three times now, do you think you will make a run at the Presidency soon?
Actually, yes. Some very close have mentioned that now was the time for an economic-minded President. Others want the media and domestic programs revitalized - all things I have focused on in my eRepublik career publicly. Behind the scenes I have done almost half of the current State work and am experienced in military tactics and strategies. I feel myself confident in upholding the position of the President (especially since I have served every U.S. President since Benn Dover personally) and I will definitely run for the big chair in November. Hopefully the American people feel like I am the right choice and will give me the honor of becoming President on the month of my one-year playing the game (which is at the end of the month). Oh, the original question. Yes, I will be making a run just this next month in November. I may not be campaigning too much, since my current job comes before a future one.

Let’s all thank Jewitt for taking the time out of his day to talk with us. That’s all I have for you tonight folks! Thank you for reading it all, I didn’t think it would be that long when I set out hahaha. Now as we part I leave you with a quote to ponder on.

“Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners, and necessity has made us allies. Those whom God has so joined together, let no man put asunder.”
