An eRepublik Christmas Story

Day 2,933, 03:52 Published in Greece China by Darth Kane

It's been years since I wrote a story. But, being 306 years old (in eRepublik years of course) makes me a great story teller. So, put some cinnamon in your tea, sit by the fireplace and read.

It was a cold night up on the mountain, about 150 years ago, me and my regiment comrades were patrolling the borders in Thrace. Rumors said that dark days were ahead us. Many countries wanted to hurt us. I don't know if it was the sea or the power this nation had back then. Being in a world dominated by war, I guess it doesn't matter why.
I was sitting on a chair with my weapon on the table, scrapping old rugs to make some heat in the room. The other guys were sleeping, 2 others were patrolling the area. Another guy was sitting with me bibbling on some apples. I heard a noise from outside and told him to be quiet. I decided to go out to check.
Our lookout was on a hilltop. Everything around us was white due to the heavy snowfall. On the back side there was a village, with good people, always taking care of us, with some good food. In front of us it was the Greek - Bulgarian borders. Lights could be seen in the far back, but it was all quiet. I thought maybe it was my imagination or some animal made that noise. Like the other night when a guy opened fire at a deer coming close to our position. We were picking on him after that day "Santa won't bring you the War Stash you want, you killed his Rudolph!" we said.
I scoped with my night vision goggles around but nothing. I made a quick check on our vehicles, and a check on the patrol on the radio. All was good. I decided to get in because I was frozen. But suddenly, a bazooka fired and blasted 10 feet from me! I tried to jump in the building. I managed to get in, my ears were ringing. The guy who was eating apples ran to sound the alarm. The whole regiment woke up and started getting out fully armed.
The before quiet scenery was hell. Red lights were shooting up the sky, planes, and small black dots were coming out of the woods across the borders. It was enemy soldiers. Adrenaline was pumping and we were shooting at them. They were many. Explosions from everywhere! Good for us we had some tanks to help us hold the position.
We lost many friends that first night. It was a slaughter. But we managed to buy another day.
Soon, more people came to help us. Some mercenaries from another country were talking to each other and then laughed. I asked them why they were laughing, and they said to me that 5 nations declared Greece as a Natural Enemy. They hoped Greece had enough Gold to manage all of this hellhole it got into. I smiled and said, Greece always finds a way. We will. And we did.
