ADTP Party President Debate Log

Day 961, 15:43 Published in USA Canada by DMV3

lietk12 The first question is this: What would make you a good PP? What are your qualifications? We'll go in this order for this question: charmader, Dennis, Indrae, mjdiv

charmader95 I have been an active member of our party for several months now.
I have been the Director of Outreach, have run for congress 4 times, and helped with snipers the last election. This party is the only party I have been a member of. I will make a good PP simpley because I will put personal effort and time into advertising and messaging members, along with possibly establishing a party milita and working with other party and government leaders. I will also try to increase the number of snipers and congress members we have.

Dennis McVicker I've been a party president, my track record shows I make an excellent leader and PP I have made reorganizing and expanding this party my number one priority, a priority that has been put on hold for the last month, I put together the merger that created our new party, and if elected PP I will work towards expanding our party further. I installed the position of Congressional whip to get our congressmen active and involved and I actively recruited new citizens to our party if elected to another term I will make our growth and prosperity my number one goal

Indrae I've been involved in several aspects of the game. I've run the CTF, the Bureau of Ambassador Affairs, I've been a Deputy Secretary of State for several terms, and have done other government jobs. I've been a party member for about 10 months now, and have run and won congress 5 times as a Lib/TAMA/ADTP candidate. I've been heavily involved in party affairs for quite a while now, at one point being VPP under KrissyKat, along with being chairman of the now disbanded LPSC. I'll put in as much of my time and energy that is necessary to run this party, and would like to get a militia program, active recruitment program, and mentoring program set up.

mjdiv As the incumbent party president, I'm already experienced in this role. I have always been a member of this party (and all the names it's ever had) throughout my entire life, never leaving and dividing my loyalties, and I know the history and values this party stands for. Throughout my eLife, I have made friends with many different people in all different parties and have become a respected person who is able to rally support across parties. I have occupied positions within the Executive Branch in every Department with the exception of the Department of Defense and have excelled in every role. I have been a consistent leader with a definite direction which I will continue to follow.

lietk12 Our next question comes from Xpulsion.

Xpulsion As we all know, V2 ... or rising as they called it has come out, and may be more of a struggle for the newer members, as well as some of the vets. How will either of you adress this concern and balance politics as well?
.
lietk12 Speaking order this roun😛 Dennis_McVicker_, Indrae, mjdiv, charmader95

Dennis McVicker In a word, education. My goal when I started planning for the party militia was not just to have it for fighting, but also for education. Our party currently has members involved with every facet of the game, including government, economics, the military, and education. Who's better than these folks to teach our new players? One of the things I focused on when recruiting new member was offering them help and educating them, as the new Dean of NAU I have experience my opponents lack in this area, I have taught business and economics for NAU and have worked with outreach programs for new players. During my term as PP I excelled at the political aspect of the game as well getting 10 people elected to congress under our banner whereas we currently only have 7 people elected under our party

Indrae I plan to have a group of active members study and learn how V2 works, with the hopes of having enough understanding of the mechanics in order to set up a program to educate newer and older members of the party to help them succeed in V2. An added bonus of educating our members is that we can help get them active within the game and the party, letting us find newer faces to one day become congress members and future party leadership. I will also put a greater emphasis on not having a greater quantity of our members in congress, but greater quality.

mjdiv As I have discussed with our council, my goal is to run classes both on IRC and our new forum (which will be out soon) to teach players both old and new about V2, focusing on the new economics as well as what I have learned during the beta testing phase running a business and engaging in military exercises. As the Director of Economic Relations for USA under Choc and now under President Bradley Reala, I will also bring first-hand knowledge about the interrelated economies of the different nations around the world.

charmader95 Communication is key, and I intend to utilize all of the methods of contacting our members that we have. We can have information concerning V2 on our forum and newspaper and have links sent to all members, along with new members. We can use these change to help recruit and retain new members by helping through V2.

lietk12 Do any of the candidates have any follow-up questions on this topic?

Dennis McVicker may I?

mjdiv Dennis....you first if lietk12 wishes 🙂

lietk12 By a coin toss, Dennis_McVicker_ will ask the first follow-up

Dennis McVicker One of my opponents said that he'd recruit quality candidates over quantity, I presonally believe we can accomplish both. How would each of you go about bringing a greater number of quality candidate?

charmader95 I definitely agree that we can accomplish both, and accomplishing both is one of my main goals. Quality is hard to define, however, and anyone who is not a total newb or moron would be allowed to run. I would achieve this simply by increasing communication. We need to publish MORE ARTICLES in what is currently the TAMA Times, Especially around election day.
We also need to encouage our candidates to personally message prospective voters inside and outside the party

mjdiv I've already started to work on building a list of people within the party who wish to run for Congress next term and the fact that we have just merged with ADP means we have a larger pool of potential candidates to draw from. The questioner noted that he got 3 more people within the party elected to Congress than I had. He, however, did not note that he was 1 of 4 people who was going to run for Congress under our party, but then switched to run under a different party for their endorsement. During the last 3 elections, 70% of the people we've endorsed (whether from our party or not) have been quality candidates and I will continue to work with all of the parties to get quality candidates into Congress as well as increasing the activity of our own party.

Indrae What we can do depends on the situation. If a congressman seeks re-election as an ADTP member, we'll review their actions in congress over the past month, determine whether they were active and contributed, and then decide whether we want to run them again. For members who haven't been in congress before, we can judge how active they were by looking at their recent accomplishments. Quantity and quality can be achieved at the same time, but what I'd like to make clear is that I'd rather have fewer, more active members in congress, than a greater number of semi-active or inactive members.

Dennis McVicker I plan on accomplishing both by educating our congressional candidates and ensuring they are active through the position of Party Congressional Whip, who will be responsible for keeping track of business before congress, and inform our congressional delegation of any such business. This position I created during my first term, and plan on bringing back if elected PP. During my time on eRep I have built relationships with the leadership of most of the parties, both big and small, and by nurturing those relationships we'll see greater success in not only Congressional elections but overall.

lietk12 mjdiv: I believe you had a follow-up question?

mjdiv Actually, my follow-up question was already answered, but I'd like to point out that Congressional Party Whip will also be part of my party presidency

lietk12 Next question: what is your plan/vision/goal for the militia? How do you plan to organize it?

lietk12 Order: Indrae, mjdiv, Dennis McVicker, charmader95

Indrae I see our future militia as being primarily a tool of education, and then a fighting force. I'd like to see us have experienced party members leading the militia, who would help educate newer members who join the militia about the game and the new military features. We would encourage newer party members to join, in the hopes that they could learn something about the game.

mjdiv My goal for militia is to:
1. Work together with JCS to coordinate big battles which are important to our nation.
2. Provide support in the defense of nations who are our preferred trading partners if they are attacked, provided this does not conflict with JCS initiatives.
3. Use the militia as a training module for military actions in V2. I have spent a lot of time in the beta testing phase of military and will also recruit others who have this knowledge to be able to impart to our militia.

Dennis McVicker My plan for the militia involves using it not only for military missions, but also for organizing our political structure and educating our new players. By having a militia we build a structure that not only helps with military objectives, but has shown to improve political participation as well. One of our biggest problems as political party in the past was the fact that many of our members had to often leave the party because they were members of the military, my hope is that by having a militia we lessen the impact this has on our party.

charmader95 I think a party militia is a great idea that could definitely help improve party participation. Getting new players to join could help us keep them involved in the party during all times, as the political module of eRepublik is (unfortunately) not nearly as popular as the military module. The members of the militia could eventually become congress members and be used as snipers or strategical voters. This applies not only to new players but to all players.

lietk12 Xpulsion has another question.

Xpulsion Since trade is in our name, what are your goals to increase trade with our brothers, promote eUS businesses and stimulate our economy, epecially with the debt that our government has accumulated?

lietk12 Order: mjdiv, charmader95, Dennis McVicker, Indrae

mjdiv ok, glad I got this one first 🙂 The reason trade is in our name in the first place,
is because our former party was losing interest of our members and when Dennis ran for President,
he agreed to change the name to an organization I had created 2 months previously to address trade the TAMA organization, which still exists and will continue to in the future this focuses on opening markets around the world USA has a lot of businesses (more than any nation in the world)
and we need places to export our products to if we are going to keep our prices from dropping more Our surplus exceeds the demand we have I will continue my work at the Cabinet level to open foreign markets to us and continue the efforts of the TAMA organization, which has roots in 6 different countries at the present time with a more balanced price structure, our government will be able to pay off its debts better with increased income which, instead of coming from high import taxes, will come from increased revenue which result from sales of products

charmader95 Unfortunately, being PP even of a major party does not give you much power concerning trade. However, as PP I will encourage our members and congressmen to support trade and I will follow the excellent ideals that mjdiv has come up with in the idea of TAMA. Trade is important because it can increase our nation’s prosperity and income.

Dennis McVicker These changes will come from not only leading by example, but reaching out and promoting these policies to our allies and enemies alike. By promoting free trade. we are currently leading by example, and through our success other nations will begin to see the benefits of this. As a former chairmen of Budget and Finance in Congress, I have shown a history of not only encouraging free trade, but of also encouraging responsible and accountable economic policy at the national level. Through these combined efforts that we will see not only greater economic growth and prosperity, but also a lower tax burden on all of our citizens. It is policy such as these that I will encourage our congressional delegation to support

Indrae I'm going to admit that I'm not an economic expert. There is honestly little that the party itself can do to influence these things, other than electing congressman that share the TAMA ideals. I already know of the efforts of our members in high cabinet positions to push forward these ideals, and feel that we should focus on our parties' internal stability and organization as a priority over economic matters.

lietk12 anyone have any follow-up questions on this subject?

mjdiv o/

lietk12 mjdiv: ok

mjdiv My question is to Dennis McVicker :

mjdiv I've studied the economics of One Eye and others who have promoted our system and I have a good understanding of it You mentioned lowering the tax burden on our citizens.. How do you propose the tax burden will be reduced while maintaining revenue to the government?
especially on the party level

Dennis McVicker It's very simple really by eliminating wasteful spending by promoting economic responsibility and accountability we'll create greater efficiency meaning less has to be spent

mjdiv that's great for the government and a good goal but, to relieve the tax burden, that means lowering income taxes, right?

Dennis McVicker also, by growing the economy through free-trade means we have to tax each individual less as the pool is larger, you grow the overall economy and the individual tax burden can be relieved because it requires a smaller percentage of income to yield the same revenue

mjdivThat doesn't relieve tax burden, that increases tax revenue

lietk12 Can we please define "tax burden"?

Dennis McVicker it does if you cut income taxes so that the larger economy supports a tax plan that is revenue neutral

mjdiv So you're in favor of reducing income taxes while we also have low import taxes?

Dennis McVicker if we can reduce income taxes and keep import taxes low yes, which is something increased gdp would allow for. As far as defining tax burden goes each person pays a percentage of income, by lower the percentage each person pays you decrease their burden

lietk12 Ok, thanks.

mjdiv So you intend this to be an additional party-wide goal rather than an individual one?

Dennis McVicker it has always been a personal goal of mine, whether the party intends to adopt it or not is up to the party, but it'd be irresponsible of me not to present another option, especially one I strongly favor

lietk12 Dennis_McVicker_: I'd like to ask you a question You previously said, "by eliminating wasteful spending by promoting economic responsibility and accountability".

Dennis McVicker yes

lietk12 What have you identified as instances of wasteful spending in the government?

Dennis McVicker Certain programs (non-military) receive budgets that have not been able to spend in the past, my hope is that all non-programs would be required to submit spending and justify their budget, which is something the military already does, or at least did when I was in Congress

lietk12 I believe Dennis McVicker has a question for all the candidates. Question-answering order will be charmader95, Dennis McVicker, Indrae, and mjdiv

Dennis McVicker what do you believe is the most important quality a PP should possess, and why do you believe it is important?

charmader95 The most important quality is effort. The best PP is one that will put in personal effort to making the party better, along with corrdinating the efforts of others through clear communication. That is what I will do as PP.

Dennis McVicker I believe a PP should be able to not only plan things out, but also think on their feet, by being proactive a PP can not only plan for what needs to be done, but also plan for what may need to be done as well. It is this type of foresight we need in a PP, because a PP who is reactionary as opposed to proactive is always one step behind. It is my foresight and and being proactive that I believe leave me most prepared for this job.

Indrae I believe that dedication is the most important quality a PP should possess. Many times in the past we've been lead by PPs who have disappeared, haven't put a full effort forward, and in some cases, haven't cared what happens to the party. A PP needs to put forth a consistend effort, which requires a considerable amount of dedication.

mjdiv To be an effective party president, he/she must be able to do several things well, such as building relationships, consensus, listening to party members and encouraging others to take on leadership positions. However, since the question was about the MOST important quality, I would have to say it is providing definite, predictable direction to the party so that members and potential members know the direction they are going in and know that their party president will remain loyal to the party.

lietk12 Does anyone have any additional questions for tonight?

mjdiv sure To all candidates What is the driving purpose for you to be party president of ADTP ?

lietk12 answering order: Dennis McVicker, Indrae, mjdiv, charmader95

Dennis McVicker Leaving the party better off than I found it. Things travel in one of two directions, either forward or backward, if we're to keep moving forward we must make a concerted effort to do so, we can't rest on our laurels, we must continue to build on the progress and momentum we're currently seeing.

Indrae I see a need for strong leadership, and feel that I can provide that. Now that our parties have merged, we need organizational skills to move forward, and I believe that I can do what is necessary to lead this party to a better place.

mjdiv For me, I love what this party is, has been and is becoming and I have been a part of that entire process, through all of the ups and downs. I am close to the core values of our party and want to make sure we stay true to those values. I embrace the addition of ADP and former members of other parties into our ranks and the new relationships we've formed because of how close they are to the values we already represent and look forward to how it will increase our activity. Being party president is also a job that requires sacrifice; its often a thankless job that actually costs money to perform, but I am willing to do (as I have done already) invest real life money into the party. Seeing our party flourish is the greatest reward for me and I want to ensure that we continue in a consistent direction which I have provided and will continue to provide.

charmader95 Our party has a great and mostly untapped potential to be a much more powerful and influential party than it currently is. I will help it realize that potential through steady communication and proper coordination.

lietk12 Ok. It appears that this debate is now concluded.
