[SBQ] Dio Suryo Replies or Why You Should Vote

Editors Note: Dio Suryo was kind enough to answer several questions, things in RL got in the way of completing the interview, until now and I have edited in several more responses. My questions are regular font, Dio Suryo's answers are in bold.

It would see our game is making a revival, or is it just a player wanting attention this month and now has the bom boms out ( "plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose")?

"Honestly, both. I think having a big, charismatic personality making noise is a lot of what delivers people waking up and paying attention. As much as it would be great if 'we could just declare war on Spain and everyone will get engaged!' that's not how it works."

This is a game of big names and people follow leaders. I don't know if I really fit the bill, but it'll never happen if people aren't willing to risk looking like shallow self-promotion machines. Some people are going to think that about me, for sure. But some people are bound to think about anyone who has the nerve to force their way on stage and demand the spotlight.

And that's cool too, even a reaction against that is more involved and better than everyone passively clicking until something happens.

Gnilraps will be a tough opponent, as he has said he has done most things already. isn't it time to let others gain the experience (or just another trophy on a make believe wall)?

You know, I don't agree. If and when it's time for new people to come up and take power, they need to be able to compete with those old people. If I win, I want it to be because I fought harder and better and people decided I was the best choice. I don't want to win because Gnilraps or anyone else 'let me have it'.

I know Gnilraps a bit and I don't think he's particularly opposed to my candidacy, if anything I'd guess he doesn't think I'm quite ready yet; he might even be right about that. But based on his article, it sounds more like he doesn't want to risk MrCarey winning than anything.

But, if I did happen to pull this off, I think Gnilraps would be a good sport about it and I'm sure he'd be happy to put his clout to work in order to help me achieve for America, because he knows that's what I'm about; making awesome happen for America

It being a game, what is this "ready" for office, could someone screw up the eUS that much in a month?

Well, I am a bit weak on FP and mechanics. I admit that, I don't think it's really a huge deal and having the right staff should root out problems before they are actually problems. However, I mean equally that America probably isn't ready for me to be CP either. I don't think anyone's 'ready' to be CP on their first day, the real question is can you figure it out as you go along or do you drop the ball? I think I could 'carry the ball', but I'd also probably be able to do more with more opportune timing.

Your cabinet picks (me included) seems to based on the idea that we are here to have fun, what ideas could you share that might be implemented?

I don't think fun is really a thing you plan, especially in a sandbox like this. Fun, in this setting, is something you find yourself doing when people stop moaning about how bored they are and start going over there to see what all the ruckus is about. Fun isn't something anyone makes happen, it's more a matter of creating an atmosphere where fun is something people can have.

In the past two months, I haven't really planned anything I've done. I just made it up as I went along and there have been a few people that stopped treating the game like a daily grind and played with the toys we have. I think the biggest problem is that, in order to do this, most old players just 'try to make Dio happen again', but Dio's probably not going to happen again; if Dio happens again, it'll be on Dio's terms, not because a bunch of bored oldfgts waved a magic wand. Dio didn't happen because of some rigidly structured template, it was free-form and constantly developing. That's the good stuff, the tropes are great or everything, for those who like to play with those toys, but it's not ever going to work for everyone else.

It's a heritage I cherish; and I cherish it enough not to drag it everywhere I go. To do so would cheapen it.

I just want the spark; let the fire burn in whatever way it chooses.
