::: SFP Cracks the Top 5
The biggest news is that the SFP (Socialist Freedom Party) has now moved into the Top 5. While it was expected that the crippled and possibly dying AMP (American Military Party) would be the one to fall out, it's the BSP (Black Sheep Party) who've dropped to Number Six.
BSP and SFP have, the past couple months, been extremely effective election-time partners, with the T5 Sheep hosting the Socialists' Congressional candidates. Last week's election saw the Socialist/Sheep political machine topping the chart with 15 total Congressional seats.
A quick look at both Parties' membership lists show 12 BSP Congressmen, while the SFP shows only three-- so my original theory that SFP Congressmen moving home was the weight that tipped the scale was off base. While I'm almost certain that a couple SFP Congressmen have yet to move home, we're already seeing the SFP with a three member lead on the BSP.
Could it be that the Socialist Freedom Party has been steadily gaining ground on its own merit? Could it be that a Party who actually has an agenda, who brazenly goes against the grain, who makes few promises but delivers, would gain such attention and favor from an unsettled populace that they're climbing in Party Rankings because they're worth your eRep time and effort?
Could be... could be.
Congratulations, Socialist Freedom Party, Party leadership and especially Party members. This has been a long time coming.
::: OhFU About to Lose the Number Eight Spot
That's right, kiddies, for several months now you could pop open the Party Rankings page and be assured that the Old Fu-ks United Party would be right there at the Number Eight spot, but today we find ourselves a scant one member ahead of the Croatian Americans.. and I'm pretty sure the overnights will put us even in numbers but behind because that Party is older than us.
Why are we losing members?
Well, to start with, even among active players, we have campaigned hard to be the Party of the Dead and Dying. And, indeed, some players who have quit this miserable game, who have chosen to come lay their e-bodies to rest at the OhFU Hospice, have passed on. Minus those members.
Some new players come to the OhFU as their first Party when they hit Level 20 or so, maybe because in RL they're older than the average gamer and the notion of a Party for old fu-ks appeals to them. Then after a while they see the activity in other Parties and the total lack of activity in ours, and move on. Minus those members.
Then there are our solid eRep players-- some daily active but fiercely independent, some are 2-clickers who just don't give a shit (which, by the way, is our mantra-- "we just don't give a shit!")-- who do decide to become more active. I know we've lost a few to the SFP, and rock'n'roll you betcha yeah, I'm happy to know that the OhFU can be part of their success. Minus those members.
Those are what I think are the main reasons we've dropped in membership numbers. And it never bothered me till I see that we're about to slip a slot behind the Croatian Americans.
I got comfortable at Number Eight.
I like Number Eight.
Not any risk or challenge to the Top Six, just the top of the rest of the heap.
And it's my own fault, too. I let RL get ahead of my Game. I'm having a very rare hell of a busy and productive RL lately. But in game I've become exactly what I expect of OhFU members-- a 2-clicker who watches American politics from a safe distance, doing my thrice-monthly Vote clicks but otherwise.. "meh, whatever."
That a Party President, even of a Do Nothing Party, would actually do nothing, has come to roost.
So, yeah.. here's the pitch:
If you're an active player who gives a shit and wants to be a part of a well organized Party who works hard (see their massive Media group?), then you should look at the SFP.
But if you're so tired of American politics that you just want out.. you've stuffed your last envelope, you've campaigned for your last quack who's been a total disappointment to you, you're just tired and quite frankly have simply run out of shits to give.. we get our recliners at wholesale, so just pull one up and watch the game roll by.
We're the Old Fu-ks, and you don't necessarily have to be an old fu-k to join us.. just don't expect much.
I think there's just enough of you out there to bump us a little ahead of the Croatian Americans (who are dandy fine folks, don't get me wrong) to hold our comfortable Number Eight spot.
It's a low bar, and like the one on the far side of the bathtub, I think we can reach it.
Fight Like an Old Fu-k
As an added incentive, in addition to the many Party programs (the OhFU Hospice, the OhFU Rest Home, and the OhFU SCAM) the OhFU runs, we also have our own Military Unit.
The Geritol Generation does not offer supplies, and I do well to even post decent Daily Orders on a regular basis. We do, however, have some money in the kitty (plus personal funds earmarked for the MU) for a Combat Order if a situation arises meriting one. And we've got a nice retro style uniform, too!
So there's that. The Old Fu-ks Party, the Party who doesn't do much of anything because we just don't give a shit anymore, has an MU that works pretty much the same way. Exciting, huh?
