[Inspector-General] Calling for trainees

Day 2,133, 23:29 Published in Australia Australia by Lord TJ

(Re-post of message on the Senate floor for those without forum access. If interested persons don't have forum access, they will need it).

As of the first week of next month I will be legally unable to remain in the position and at present it's a grey area of conscience. In preparation for the transition I am calling for a knowledgeable trainee to step up for the position of Inspector-General.

Taking on the trainee position doesn't guarantee election. What it does is makes a more qualified person, familiar with our laws and our system of government. The recommendation of the Prime Minister and election by the Senate will determine whether the candidate is sworn in to take over the role. The method of election is obviously subject to current legislative change.

Under the law the I-G must be a current Senator. Training sessions will take place on Skype, or if the trainee is already familiar with the position, that will of course hasten things up.

I look forward to someone stepping up.

INSPECTOR-GENERAL
