On the 5th of every month the nations of the New World begin the process of electing a new leader for their country. This is by far the most important election of the month, and the outcome of this day will determine our fate for the month to come.

Let your vote be an exercise of individual choice, a reflection of your loyalty to eIreland, and a result of the careful application of independent thought.

In an attempt to better inform the voting population, I'd like to provide some essential information about this months elections.

Campaign Articles
It's a good idea to read the campaign articles of each candidate before voting. Campaign articles most often detail the intentions and goals of a candidate, as well as their planned cabinet.

Note: The Country President's Cabinet refers to a team of people who will be aiding the Country President in his/her duties. Important examples are the Minister(s) of Defence, Minister(s) of Foreign Affairs, and Minister(s) of Finance. For examples of past cabinets, look here. For a better idea of how Irish government is set up, look here.

Background Information

Winston Hope Smith: Winston (WHS) joined eRepublik on September 6, 2009 with existing experience from another game called NationStates. [1] He is a member, and the current president of eIreland's most popular party the Independent Labour Party (founded February 16, 2011 [2]). He has held the position of president in his party regularly over the modern history of the ILP and is the de facto leader in a broad sense. WHS has extensive political experience, having played a major role in the success and management of the ILP, having been elected to congress 11 times, having served as an advisor to Bean&Teddy during eIreland's September/October 2012 term, and Vice President under Ronisu in August of 2012. He has also served as the commander of the ILP's Labour Army, giving him some military experience through his management of the MU and Labour Army's involvement in national level war strategy. WHS found a spot in the running after, earlier candidate, Nogin the nog decided to drop out of the race - her party the IFP then opting to support Winston. Winston is a left-wing political figure.

The Psych0: The Psych0, formerly known as MUFC92, joined eRepublik on May 12, 2011 as an eCroatian and RL Croatian. On September 23, 2011 he became a citizen of eIreland. [1]. On October 19, 2011 he took over as commander of the Irish Army, where he would begin to shape and re-shape our national military into much of what it is today. He has also been highly involved in the Irish Citizen's Army more recently, before returning to the Irish Army. The Irish Progressive Party, the predecessor to today's Saoirse, was also founded by The Psych0 and rose to popularity much to his credit. Today Saoirse is the second most popular party in eIreland. Psych0 has been the Minister of Defence during several terms, amd was the Vice President of Thanatos the Magnificent's July 2012 government. In January of 2012, as MUFC12, he was the Country President of eIreland.

AAAdefusedAAA: He was born on October 25, 2012. He is the current president of his Popular Irish Movement party which has six members. He is a soldier in the Irish Army.

I offered each candidate the opportunity to respond to some questions about their candidacy that I thought would shed some light on these elections. Both Winston Hope Smith and The Psych0 were kind enough to answer them. AAAdefusedAAA was contacted, but failed to respond. Let's have a look at what two of our candidates had to say.

Why are you choosing to run this month and what do you hope to accomplish in these elections?

Winston Hope Smith-Like many people, I've actually become sick and tired of divisive party politics. That's why I'm proposing a new break in eIrish politics by announcing an "eIrish Government of all the Talents" - one where experience trumps party political loyalty. As you'll see in my proposed cabinet that means working with people that I've had personal run-ins with. This time though we're all committed to putting aside petty differences and working together.

The Psych0-I'm running this month firstly because I have more free time then ever. I also felt it's this month is the biggest need of me running so far - after last couple of months when eIrish governments failed to be successful. eIreland is in hard situation, we don't have money, until recently we didn't have a serious army. We're not united so I thought it's perfect time for me to run. I know some people in eIreland are my opposition and rivals, but I know also that they respect me, and one of my main goals will be to unite all Irishmen. I just feel I'm the right person to elect now.

How would you summarize your plan for governing the nation in November?

Winston Hope Smith-First of all, as outlined above, assemble a team of citizens who bring experience and credibility to the job. We have already set out our priorities: rebuild eIreland's finances and put us back on the road to greatness. This is a government of old heads. At the same time, I am pioneering an apprenticeship system to get younger citizens to shadow the Ministers to promote a new generation of leaders, skilled in the art of government. If any of your younger citizens find this idea appealing, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

The Psych0-Fun - it's all about that. We don't have money, but we have allies, we can have fun, we can play this game once again, we can fight for Eire where it matters again. Of course, war is not only thing I'll push for. There will be a lot of other projects and plans. My main goal is to stabilize government and stabilize eIreland because at this moment we need stability.

What considerations have you made for cabinet positions? How will you be using your cabinet if you are elected?

Winston Hope Smith-Please see my proposed cabinet team here: http://www.erepublik.com/en/article/2149112/1/20. They are all familiar and trustworthy faces in their respective roles. The Cabinet will otherwise be IRC based with all proposals and plans discussed collectively.

The Psych0-I decided to choose people I trust, people that I know are the best in their jobs. Like I said, we need stability and to achieve that we need expirienced people more then ever. I didn't look at which party my Ministers are from, I chose them by their knowledge. I think that's the most important attribute of my Cabinet. They will all do their jobs properly and the best they can, that's one thing I'm sure about.

How do you understand the relationship between the government and eIreland’s MUs? How would you coordinate with the many MUs?

Winston Hope Smith-In my last term, I started the mass Commander message (due to the military model changes) and I believe this is a must. Also, the MoD, MUFC, will be issuing regular orders outlining what eIreland govt priorities are.

The Psych0-I think all our MU's mostly follow Government orders. I guess love for Ireland is bigger than anything. And that's good. My plan is to unite as many Irishmen as I can under one flag. Irish Army. That's best way to achieve unity. Coordination of all MUs will not be such a hard task. There will be an IRC channel for Commanders of every MU , there will be PM thread for those same people and there will be articles from the MoD every day - updated few times per day. I guess it's enough for every Irishmen who want to follow orders.

Recent thefts from the state have left eIreland in dismal shape financially. What do you see as a realistic timeline for re-establishing a functional balance in our national treasury?

Winston Hope Smith-I have spoken to my proposed MoF Appleman and his reply is this "I'll have to get in and see what we still have first then work to consolidate our resources to maximize the money-making opportunity. I'll also evaluate our tax policies and make recommendations to congress to increase government income without jeopardizing economic growth. I already see some opportunity there."

The Psych0-I have to admit that I'm not good with money nor with making money. That's why I'll put a person I trust on MoF. That person will be in charge of money and making money. I guess that will be most important position in next few months. Let's all be realistic and say we'll never have more money then we had before those thefts. We all worked on making that money for almost a year (since January when I became CP for first time and Sweet was MoF - his proposal for taxes policy got accepted then). I'll appoint best person to do MoF job and I'll make sure we don't get robbed once again. That's all we can do now.

*note: Appleman has been selected as the MoF for both candidates cabinets*

What would you see done in order to make this recovery as quick as possible?

Winston Hope Smith-See above.

The Psych0-We have two choices. To stop every single project and war in this country and make us a rich as country once again. Or we can have wars and projects but not much money in our treasury. I choose second option.

Given the current state of our nation’s treasury, is now the time for war? How do we occupy ourselves next month?

Winston Hope Smith-That is a difficult one as the lack of money is a crucial factor. I know the current Governmant is trying to arrange a training war with the UK. I am more inclined to support the region swap Wexford/Louth for Northern Ireland/Scotland. If the UK are agreeable and achieving this will take up a lot of the current term. If this is not possible then I along with the cabinet will have to look at the options but no crazy ideas will be supported.

The Psych0-It's always time for war. This is a war game, you just have to follow game mechanics to be successful. War can be won using two things. Money and allies. You can combine them, or you can use either one of those alone. In this situation we'll have to rely on our allies. It's their chance to prove they are here for us whenever we need them.

What will this last term be remembered for?

Winston Hope Smith-Unfortunately thefts and treading water. Divisions and arguments.

The Psych0-Thefts, weakness of government, inablitiy to prevent people to steal. Certainly not good term.

What will your term be remembered for?

Winston Hope Smith-Hopefully recovery and unity, activity, and financial solvency

The Psych0-We'll see about that. At this moment I can't promise anything except stability and fun. I don't think my term will be a historical one, but I'm sure I'll make it possible for others after me to have their own historical terms 🙂

There you have it eIreland. The choice between these two eIrish candidates is yours. Choose well.
