Work Taxes and Why Have I Returned?

This is in response to the first part of this article here:

I moved back to eAus because work taxes in eGreece moved from 1% to 8% (they are now at 6😵 and I needed quick tax relief, so I came back to eAus (3% work tax). I was then preparing for another whinge about eAus 3% work taxes here:

I would have preferred 1% work taxes, but I didn't want to seem too demanding and suggested 1% or 2%. I noticed eAus work taxes are now back at 2% (big thank you!) and whilst not ecstatic about it, I thought there might be some government/politic stuff going on that required the revenues... whatever... I am not privy to it and admittedly not very interested.

Now that work taxes are at 2%, is there a reason why they can't be back down to 1% (and stay there permanently)? From my point of view, low work taxes encourages production in your own factories and self-sufficiency in the long run.

I would happily build more factories and produce more goods to consume and sell if work taxes were low. Higher work taxes means I have to scrape around as a mercenary looking for money to pay work taxes and to keep myself financially afloat. (This is very distressing for a two-clicker 😁).

If work taxes are low, I am encouraged to build more factories and produce more goods, I would sell the surplus on the marketplace and pay VAT. I would prefer the government tax me via VAT rather than via work taxes. When I dump products on to the marketplace, they are products that I know I will never consume and never need. Those surplus products are sold purely to make a bit of money. They cost me nothing to produce except for a bit of my energy bar. My product dumping benefits other players via lower product costs if they aren't self-sufficient. So wouldn't it be better to keep work taxes as low as possible and adjust VAT for government revenues instead?

I just think higher work taxes are an impediment to self-sufficiency. It penalizes newer players more because they will find it harder to raise more money to produce goods for themselves. Since they are newer players, they will also have less surplus production to sell and with low marketplace prices, they will struggle to pay work taxes too.

From my own experience, I have only recently become self-sufficient and I produce a small surplus that I can dump on the market. Self-sufficiency means I don't have to buy products on the marketplace in competition with newer players. My small surplus production also means I can dump them at lower prices for the benefit of players who are not self-sufficient. In my opinion, it makes more sense for the government to tax my surplus production (things I dump on the marketplace), rather than taxing ALL my production and leaving me scrambling for cash as a mercenary etc.

Am I right? Am I wrong? Can work taxes be 1%? Or am I just a noobie?
