Early election results

At this time we can safely call the election for Vanek26 over 500 votes ahead of the usual suspects. This is another in a string of victories for America over enemies of the state in the AFA. This next month will be an interesting one for America, rife with uncertainty about our status in CoT and experiencing the diplomatic ripples of the recently implemented Gold Mines across the world. For this coming month, America has chosen to again rely on Vanek’s capable leadership, and his staff. With Vanek’s team at the helm, America can look forward to another solid month.

This also marks another defeat for notorious enemy of the state Ronald Gipper Reagan in a string of many. Though he may never learn, it’s comforting to see Americans do. America is saved.

Department Update: The Dept of the Interior

I had the pleasure of sitting down with new Dept of Interior (DoI) Director Othere, and although I've done Dept Updates on Interior before, it was still a new experience for me.
Othere was Deputy Director in March and recently took over as Director from Rainy Sunday, whose RL commitments have reduced her game time and commitments. Othere will be retained as DoI Director through President Vanek26's second term.
The DoI and Dept of Education (DoE) both run programs to help new players and are quite similar in many ways. I asked Othere about the differences and what the DoI has been doing lately.

DoI's main mission is to equip new and newer players with the food and weapons they need to be successful. DoE exists to educate and inform new and newer players as to the best way to play this game. We overlap in the sense that both departments want to help new players find the help they need. DoI continues its work of arming and feeding new friends. We've cleaned up and modernized the Welcome Center on eUSAforums.com. We've also increased media presence from previous months.

The DoE recently published an "all-in-one" links article, which of those noob help programs are DoI?

DoI operates four programs. Tank Up 2 Rank Up supplies tanks to eUS citizens level 25-29. Bewbs 4 Newbs supplies food to all eUS citizens. Meals on Wheels supplies food to eUS citizens level 25 & under. The Welcoming Committee sends private messages to new players the day they are created.

All this must cost some money. How is the DoI funded?

DoI is currently not receiving any government monies to run its programs. Congress is currently debating the budget for April 2013. We are hoping that the legislature will be able to find some spare change for the department, especially given the gift of the Gold Mine we have been granted. Still, fundraisers are planned to be organized for this month.
These DoI programs have served thousands of citizens since they were first initiated. Now that Gold Mines have temporarily reduced the burden on the government's coffers, reasonable increases in support of necessary DoI programs should pass unopposed.

The Department of Interior publishes regularly in the First Steps category, so that new players will easily find help from this official government department. DoI's most recent publication was Thursday, and they're expected to publish fresh every few days so there's always something from the DoI available to new players.
