The Trigger: A Fight Too Close to Home

Day 618, 17:28 Published in USA USA by Arkandy

Just recently, Russia controlled Minnesota, just west of Wisconsin. Since i am from Wisconsin, i'm now realising how close to home this battle has become. I think Dunkle Black can explain what I mean a lot better than i can.

I am happy to present to you Dunkle Black's short story: The Trigger.

It was only moments ago, at least in his mind, that the buzz from his helicopter escaped into the sky. He was dropped off 8 km from the PEACE camp that housed a strong, but small division of PEACE soldiers that had been wreaking havoc upon the state of Kansas. They were preparing for another advance into Dodge City through the Santa Fe Trail. A handful of eAmerican troops would be sent from the flank to stop their advance, but they needed help. They needed him.

The sniper had finally made visual with their base, he was less than approximately half a km from their camp. He set up shop on a cliff overlooking the entire camp, it was perfect. His hands grazed his back as he unequipped his weapon from the holster on his back and equipped it to his hands. Thus, he began to make himself comfortable as he put the rifle butt into his shoulder. What he was holding was a marvelously crafted weapon system, made only by one the highest skilled craftsmen. It was a Q5 Semi-Automatic Enhanced Marksman Rifle with a built in Supressor. It was heavily modded, and modded by himself just to his liking. After adjustments he started his scouting routine...

Twenty-four tents, four to a tent, you do the math. That's a lot of people. A lot more than his 64-man back up. Lucky for him, many of them were scattered around the camp and single. Too easy. Or was it? He lined the scope up with a single soldier leaned against a tree with a cigarette in his mouth on the far north-west end of the camp. He was the farthest from the pack, so he will be the first to die. He slowly lined up the scope with his head, he wasn't going anywhere. The PEACE soldier was either dozing off, daydreaming, or possibly intoxicated. The sniper began to control his breathing, but started losing control of his mind. In and out, in and out...

He began to reminisce about his early days in the army. All the PEACE propaganda that infiltrated the media has a reversed effect on the sniper, it inspired him to fight. It wasn't too long until after he signed up for the Training Division that PEACE GC attacked the eUnited States of America. Lucky for him he quickly rose through the ranks and mastered the basics within weeks. He excelled at everything he did, but at one thing. Ending the life of another soul, even though that soul was trying to kill him and everyone he loved, he couldn't run it through his head. He tried, but in his mind he just could not pull the trigger. He couldn't pull the trigger... but they could. They did. They have, and they'll do it again. As a matter of fact, it wouldn't be too long before it will happen. He had to kill them, before they killed his team. Murder... or was it defense?

PEACE propaganda circulated through his mind. They were only defending their countries... this was just a pre-emptive strike... we brought this upon ourselves... we would love PEACE life, we just need to be shown the wonderfulness of it... all of this and more was everywhere and in everyone. Were we really to blame? Didn't we attack PEACE first? Is PEACE life really that much better?

"..."

"...no."

This was nonsense. California was lost so recently, had he really forgotten? That was supposed to have been his time to shine any way... but he failed. He couldn't pull the trigger. And the citizen's of now war-torn California had to pay. He saw innocents being killed in the cross-fire, in the bombing raids, and even in their own homes... one was even shot under the eyes of the sniper. If he had pulled the trigger... Then it dawned on him, he wasn't doing this for himself! He was doing this for the everyone. He was doing it for the people he loved. He was doing it for the burning cities of California, he was doing it stop the inevitable rampage of Dodge City, he was doing this to save his soldiers, he was doing it... for the innocent civilian he should have saved. He could have saved. He was doing this... for eAmerica.

And just then, he pulled that trigger.
