The Death of eRepublik

Day 2,630, 04:25 Published in United Kingdom United Kingdom by The B

What happened to this place?

About 1,500 days ago (I have no idea what actual time), I published an article. Entitled "The New Worl😛 Getting Old?" it looked at the decline of eRepublik up to that point. It was not optimistic, but there was a shred of hope: ignoring the Polish babyboom, the New World was on average growing. I thought that that growth would continue. Clearly I was wrong.

The decline that has occurred since that time has obviously been terminal.

The fault, of course, has been with the eRepublik admins and their greed and stupidity. Their failure to really do anything after the 2011 rebellion was, I believe, the reason for the decline. Perhaps they never had any intention of keeping eRepublik alive anyway.

It's a shame because eRepublik, in my experience in the eUK, had a vibrant and friendly community. Sure, there were problems, but we got on. eRepublik produced some great, intelligent players who are too numerous to mention. I was a senseless, politically illiterate idiot when I first joined back in the early days, largely due to my age, but eRepublik did something to change that. I never was successful in eRepublik, but I had great fun playing it.

I see now the old eRepublik forums dead, updated barely every day, and it's sad and depressing. But, ultimately, the admins created a community that was bound to fail, and this is the end result. We are down to about 100,000 "active" citizens globally, most of whom a few years ago would be dead - strangely, nobody seems to die any more. A great many others are multiple accounts.

And so, sadly, I finally say goodbye to this place and hope, perhaps in the future, the glory days will return.

Hail Bob Boblo!
