Presidential Candidacy Announcement

Day 2,753, 06:04 Published in Japan Japan by Eikyuu

As the presidential election is drawing near, it is time for the candidates to issue their statements and I would like to announce that I will be running for president this term as well.

For most of you this will come as no surprise because the nominations have been visible for quite some time now. I am honoured to have received the support of 7 out of Japan's 11 parties and I stress this fact because this has not happened for at least the past year and also because this candidacy is really a multi-party effort.

To be more exact, the supporting parties are, in no particular order:
Democratic Party of Japan, United Lolies of Japan, Otaku Party, Imperial Sun Party, SOS Brigade, Phantom Blood and of course Shinsengumi, whose military unit became Tsunami. I will thus be representing quite a group of different voters, and it goes without saying that it will not be just a single person or even party forcing its vision onto others.

Perhaps the reason why I was able to gain so much support is because so far I have been publishing mostly economic research and analysis articles, striving for rationality and effectiveness. I am not what one would consider a typical politician, which might be why so many party presidents have trusted me. I hope I can bring the same level of objectivity and fairness into this job, rather than the typical emotional politicking.

Turning to national issues, it is sadly the case, that Japan is ruled by a dictator, so all the democratic institutions have limited power at the moment. Nevertheless, I believe that any claim for legitimate governance has to be justified by popular vote, and that both this and congressional elections still have meaning. I am hoping that the voice of the population will be enough to at least demonstrate to other countries and alliances who the people of Japan want as their leaders. This might be the first step to bringing back stability. International help and cooperation will be impossible without at least some justification with the elections. I believe we can and should seek help with others similar to us, like the recent military incidents show, and several such countries have already reached out to us.

Because of the dictator setup, I do not want to make empty promises regarding laws or cabinet position. The concrete things that can be achieved for the moment are the social support program and forums, already started by Tsunami; better cooperation with foreign friends and above all a mature, responsible leadership which is both responsive to all citizens and cooperates with its political allies. In the end, we wish to create a more direct democracy which will use the available eRepublic tools to achieve its goals - not make the goals fit the flawed tools.

I hope you will help me achieve this by giving me your vote tomorrow.

As a postscript, I would like to ask all the debaters – supporters and opponents alike – to at least go through my previous article before engaging in the comments sections. It really is possible to have a civilized dialogue despite all the differences.
