Peculiar Alliances [ENG]

One of the most weird things happening in erepublik is the formation of peculiar alliances by enations which in RL are not having the greatest relations between each other.
We witnessed many such alliances throughout ehistory… after all this game gives the opportunity to make diplomacy from zero basis. Countries may cooperate for securing borders, for assistance during offensive or defensive operations or for any other tactical reason.
If there is to choose a top three of the most strange alliances witnessed during my two-year elife then it would be the following (listed with chronological order):

1. eUSA – eRussia (TERRA)

The transnational RL relations between the two nations are well known to almost all of you: Forced to be allied under common Nazi threat during WW2, ended up under intense conflict after victorious end of war which divided most of the world into two opposite sides. It was a conflict that represented the clash between capitalism and communism. Even after the division of USSR, the relations between Russia and USA are not the best ones even nowadays, while in every opportunity they remind of their different interests (ie Lybina issue , Syrian issue, Ukrainian issue etc).

Despite the cold RL relations, the two e-countries enjoyed an excellent relationship and military cooperation ingame under the common shield of TERRA. Even after dissolving of TERRA the good relations were maintained until these days.

2. eGreece - eTurkey (EDEN)

The hostility of these two nations is also well known and is started from Medieval times, when Ottomans occupied greek Asia Minor (the area that is now Turkish country) The weak and decadent Byzantine empire could not repel the Ottoman forces and Konstantinopole (Istanbul) was fallen. Turkish occupation in Greece lasted for almost 400 years, during which many rebel attempts were easily defeated. Eventually Southern Greece gained freedom on 1829 after successful rebellion which started 1821. War with Ottoman empire however continued for one more century with victories and defeats for both sides, which resulted to the borders which apply nowadays (except Dodekanisa Islands which were under Italian occupation and merged with rest of Greece after WW2). The intense relations between the two countries continued throughout 20th century despite that they ended up in same military side (NATO), with Cyprus issue. Despite today there are attempts for diplomatic approach, the relations are not the best ones. Even today some people in Greece consider that the capital of Greece is still occupied by Turkish (meaning Istanbul).

The start of these countries in e-world was the same with the RL one: There was a constant war between each other. All this however changed during EDEN times, when the two countries were allied and since then are one of the most reliable allies, with many Turkish and Greek players fighting side by side in battle. Even after Greece joined TWO, the two countries maintained their MMPs and their good cooperation in battles.

3. eHungary – eRomania (ASTERIA)

The story of the hostility between these two nations started centuries ago and main reason was region of Transilvania. Transilvania, a region were majority of people were Vlachian (or Wallachian), was for many centuries under Hungarian occupation. The Vlachs of Transilvania were considered 2nd class citizens by the Hungarians. During WW1 the two countries: Austria-Hungary and Romania were found in opposite sides. Austria Hungary managed to conquer Romania, however the end of war the east front of central powers (among which was Austria-Hungary) collapsed and forces were repelled. After WW1, the Austria-Hungary was divided in two countries. The years to come were disastrous: Hungary faced 3 battlefronts against Czechoslovaks on the North, Yugoslavs on the south, and Romanian on the east. Hungary lost the war and the borders were limited to those which apply today. The two nations are still not having very good relations: many Romanian still call the Hungarian Gypsies

Now a new alliance has been formed with these ecountries in same side. Remains to be seen whether the two enations can have a good military cooperation and can rest on each other wherever it is required.

What the future will be? Maybe an alliance between eSerbia and eCroatia. If I witness such alliance, I believe there will be nothing to see more in the game and it will be a good time to quit 🙂
