National MU
Rolo Tahmasee
We need a National MU that the CP is the sole member of, perhaps MoD a Commander as well, which contains the bulk of our national treasury so that the CP can control the funding of mercs for important battles
Individual MU's can be self sufficient or GTFO
That is all...
Comments
I have come to support this idea...
mwahaha absolute control to pat harper 😉
Paying MUs to suck is a terrible idea. Always has been, always will be.
National MU makes sense...
if you want to run your own show... do it on your own cash
This is called Communism. 🙂
Even though efficient, I believe that would give our gov't way too much power and influence.
Everyone should be funded directly proportional to their contributions to the war effort.
That's how it should work.
Too much opportunity for bribes and backroom deals with a "national" MU
The point is the National MU would serve as a "Combat Order" MU only, as in posting X amount of dollars for 1,000,000 damage, etc, in the battles the CP sees that we need to win
This accomplishes exactly what you want, funding proportional to contributions
Each person plays the game differently. Some two-click with some quick fighting and then leave for the day, some come on a few times throughout the day but don't want to get actively involved in stuff and just want to have fun the way they want with little to no restrictions or obstacles, and some are on multiple times a day chatting with other people and doing various extra tasks to advance themselves and/or their country in the game more quickly.
Having a diversification of MUs allows us to cater to the style and activity of gameplay each person wants. For example, some people don't want to be bothered with having to request supply and frequent reporting in. They just want to log in for 5 minutes and have everything they need to do their stuff for that day. It's less restrictive; less of an obstacle for them. Another person may see requesting supply and frequent reporting in as a sign of active players and a community with order. This person likes to really play a game and dive right in.
The point is that people join erepublik with differing levels of drive and different expectations as to what they want from this game. Although this article and it's comments so far don't necessarily say that 'we should have only one national MU and that is all', I believe multiple MUs with their own style, rules, and structure provide us with a large net to retain the new players we do regularly receive. They all desire to play this game differently from each other. Not to mention, a healthy amount of MUs for our population size provides a balanced number of leader positions for those who desire to do more in this game. I believe support should remain for diversified MUs.
As a side to that, poor leadership and management of funds can lead to the destruction of a MU. Would you rather have 1 giant MU fall or 1 smaller MU fall. 1 smaller MU's members can be absorbed into many other MUs, 1 giant MU leaves everyone with nothing to fall back on.
I've run out of space...
...so i continue with one final thought here.
An MU with the CP and/or MoD and related authorities is a good idea. Funds can be allocated into Combat Orders as seen fit. With an official title, it tells everyone in and outside our country that is fighting in that particular battle that the government of this country is supporting this battle, so please fight.
^agreed wholeheartedly, this is probably the best option, trying to kill unique MU's would just make people angry and never work, but having a Superficial MU that's sole purpose is the distribution of Combat orders efficiently could be useful.

I don't like this idea. The government should fund each MU dependent on its Damage contribution (which this MU competition is a good measure of).
I don't care how well you may know the CP and the MoD who would be managing this. If these people earn some good old "fail points" and get banned there goes the National Deposit in that "National MU". It's just a stupid idea.
Also, you cannot withdraw the funding once you donate it into the CO account. Another fail.
eCanada doesn't get banned from the game like a MU commander or a CP. That's why the money should stay in the National Treasury to fund the qualifying MU's.
On the plus side we might win some battles.
Speaking as a casual player, the bulk of the war chest should be used strategically by key players and not as a broadly distributed and tepid subsidy for casual players who just wander into battles whenever (or not) to do their little part.
If the Gov wants to buy mercs, then buy mercs. The CO game mechanic is not for this. The CO is insurance to keep a wall pushed past a certain amount - that is all. It is not for pulling damage from outside a countries damage pool, or optimizing the damage it currently has.
If this mechanic were more Merc oriented, then the MU would have a checkbox to target non-citizens.
Since this is not the case, the CO is not a solution for any efficient plan of organizing our damage.
Regardless of how MU's are funded, the MU account can only be used to pay for Combat Orders. So having an MU set up as a national treasury wouldn't work.
But one idea that can be considered is having a special MU with an account to hire mercs and have them earn CS for fighting (CO's fulfulled only by MU members get the CS so a select team could earn CS from doing damage). The only problem I see is that CO payments apply to anyone who fights for the side supported by the MU so again, it doesn't solve the problem.
The CO is expensive insurance. Casual players will take the bait, but if the CO offered is currently the highest on the map, and the moving cost is not outweighing the payoff, then you will see big damage, even from our enemies side, move over just to take capital gains.
But all in all, the CO is Insurance. The more options out there, the higher the insurance is going to cost. Just like in real life, lol.
So it can work in the end. But why bother, when you can just buy mercs... something eCountries have been doing since ancient times... lol
Actually I checked and you can specify that only MU members get paid for the damage. And if you can restrict MU membership then you can have your mercs join the MU and fight for it and get paid doing so without any of that cash being given to non-mercs such as enemies.
you guys are over thinking it. The point is the CP logs on, sees that we're losing a battle that we NEEd to win, rather than troll IRC begging for mercs, he just puts up a big CO - ($100 for 1,000,000 damage) and then sits back and watches the fighters roll in. I don't care who gets the money, if we need to win the battle, this is the easiest way to do it - and its fair, who ever is hitting when we need it, foreign or domestic, gets paid - Damage is Damage, it has no nationality
