Irish history lessons Part 1
Uljanov
Again boring day and don't know what to write about then it was brought to my attention that on this day one famous writer was born.
So lets learn something.
On this day 165 years ago, 8 November 1847, Abraham "Bram" Stoker was born.
Stoker was born on 8 November 1847 at 15 Marino Crescent, Clontarf, on the north side of Dublin, Ireland. Stoker died at No. 26 St George's Square in Pimlico, London on 20 April 1912.
He had British citizenship and Irish nationality.
Most of his writing was Gothic, Romantic Fiction and he was a part of Victorian literary movement. For most people his work is mostly unknown but one of his works influenced our lives and our imagination.
While manager for Irving, and secretary and director of London's Lyceum Theater Stoker met Ármin Vámbéry who was a Hungarian writer and traveler. And on many occasions they talked about Ármin Vámbérys travels over the Balkans, Turkey, Arab countries and all over the central Asia.
Ármin Vámbéry voyage:
What interested Stoker the most was dark stories by Carpathian mountains and "ruthless" Vlad Tepes also known as Vlad III, Prince of Wallachia and most popular of all Dracula.
The original 541-page manuscript of Dracula, believed to have been lost, was found in a barn in northwestern Pennsylvania during the early 1980s. It included the typed manuscript with many corrections, and handwritten on the title page was "THE UN-DEAD." The author's name was shown at the bottom as Bram Stoker.
After this Stoker wrote more books but none of them had influence peoples imagination as his famous story about Transylvanian Prince.
Over 200 books, TV shows and movies were made since and they were all based on Bram Stoker work of art.
Well i know this was boring but at least i learned something about Irish culture and history.
Thank you all for reading.

Bram Stokers house in Dublin has been up for sale for a while. Shameful that's there's no trust or govt support to buy it as a tribute to him.
I agree..they could make it something like Andersen's house in Odense, Denmark..i was there and they preserved it and it makes great profit..it's a shame that great man like Stokes does not share same respect..

that was really interesting : P
Lived just down the road from that house, passed it every day going to football training. The bench that he was looking at when he got the idea is still there, seriously should be buying because over the long term the state would make a fortune from tourists going to see it.
Yeah..they could make a small museum near with characters from his books or something like that..it would be sad to throw thing like that away..
voted. Really very interesting.
Its criminal, its the same as when they destroyed the Viking area on the southside of the river Liffey in Dublin just to put the Dublin Corporation building there. They could have saved the site and put the building somewhere else but nope they didn't care.
The irony being that it is Dublin Corporation which is tasked with protecting historic sites..
Sounds like Ireland's RL government could stand to get their act together...
