End of an Era

Day 1,322, 23:51 Published in USA USA by Glove

My fellow Americans, gentlemen, bros, allies, panpalar, opponents, friends, and the rest of you lovely people,

Some music for old times sake

It is with a heavy heart that I must depart from you all. The Era of Glove is over. It is time for the rest of you to emerge from the ranks, prove yourselves, and lead this fine nation. For the last few months, the United States has been under the joint rule of Emerick and myself, with the former and latter exchanging lead roles and watching over you as we progressed as a nation. We ruled with iron-fists. America was authoritarian, decisions were made at the Executive level, and it was awesome. It was a beautiful Amerika. Trains ran on time, kids were fit and healthy, and everyone made their daily prayer to him -- Amerika ist wunderbar. We tried new things, we ventured outside our traditional role as a nation, we at times had all the resources, then at one point we had none. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, but together, we lived. Times change. A common cliche in this game is that the wars are cyclic, they are. Win here, lose there, conquer this, liberate that, regions change more than Hugh Hefner’s entourage. Maybe right now we may be having some problems, but the worst part of the war is over, things will be better, we have less wars open now and we are proven resistance fighters, having already liberated a few states, like my rl state Wisconsin.

As I was sitting here a few weeks ago, barricaded in the oval office, after writing my inaugural address and declaring I would not be re-seeking another term, I started wondering who is going to replace the Glove and Emerick team. Who is going to bring the same charisma and enthusiasm to the office? Who will make sure Amerika will remain pig-disgusting free? Who will make the hard choices that will forever affect our nation? And then, a magnitude of candidates appeared. We now have the most divided election in eUSA’s history and I wish the next president the best.

Something to consider:
Regions change, and when you are making crucial decisions, remember these words:

It is not just about damage, it is about honor and loyalty. Empires rise and fall, but memories are forever. Build friendships that last, think for the future, not for the moment.

I never imagined I would lead the free world. Quite honestly, I am surprised I am still here. I had my moments in where I tried to intentionally get banned, but each time I just came really close, but never to the point of a permanent ban.

And the sick thing is, each time I got really close to that point, it drove me to advance myself more in the game, thus getting me even more entrenched into it. Weird, I know. I have been through just about everything, party politics, congress, military, militia, religion, alliance HQ, newspaper enthusiast, and etc, I would like to thank you all who helped me along the way, truly you have all had an affect on me in some way.

By far, the strongest tool in this game is the media, master the media and you master the game. Why? Well, the game changes, but the media has been largely unchanged (except for the category thing, which I have mixed feelings about) and personally, I feel it has changed for the worse, some of the most recent changes give me a little bit of hope, but it is still nothing to what it was when I first joined. There is no plot now, it is just an orgy of clicks and a 5 minute victory screen to fap over. It is like trying to watch fight club when its half-way over, you’re just not going to understand it.

You see, I think I am not alone when I say we are all here for the social aspect of the game, which is by far one of the most impressive I have seen in comparison to other games. Be it via forums, irc, skype, etc, we have built a vibrant community and culture with eRepublik.
However, I’ve noticed something strange lately: the growing apathetic mood shrouding us all. When the eUSA was wiped for those 10 minutes, I expected an angry response. Instead, the general tone was “meh.” I do not know if this is a good or bad thing, it is good in that we are not upset, since it is just a game after-all, but its bad in that people do not care enough about the game to actually get angry and do something about it to prevent from happening again. Apathetic America is apathetic.

Also, you might notice I am not endorsing anyone this election. Although I feel like I should give my nomination to Blank Keating, who has been an excellent vice-president, and for all of his slave labor and great work done in the Education Department and Secretary of State, I want to see who you decide to elect Amerika. Vote with your heart, maybe you’ll pick a dud or maybe you’ll end up with someone great.

Alas, all things must come to an end. I feel there comes a time when we need to fade away to let others take the reigns, and I think it is time I take my bow. I am not sure what I am going to do, but you will not be seeing as much of me.

May we always live in interesting times.

With much Love,

President Glove
