ecan just has a majority government!

modern politics are a very interesting topic to me. here in canada on average we are ruled by 35% to 40% of the people and we call it a majority. this seems to be the peoples preference.

what we really do is go to the polls and choose a dictator (and more often than not we are actually voting to block who we dont want)

you can see this very clearly over the past 10 years and i feel very lucky to have been alive for it. in general canadians believe a majority is more stable and better for canada and yet under a majority what the prime minister says goes. you vote along party lines or you dont get nominated for mp in your riding next election and everybody should know how important that is because you have to be mp 6 years (one term plus a year) to qualify for a golden egg laying goose... err pension.

the most democratic (and inefficient) our country can be is during the dreaded minority. during that time debates are held and bills are adjusted. we can all see in both liberal and conservative majorities how that does not happen.durig a majority bills are proposed debate period is cancelled or not attended and then the 'vote' happens and the majority gets what they want.

i bring up all this rl politics because i believe erep is a great little playground that represents the real world the same way sci fi does. it pulls things out of context and allows us to examine them from a new perspective.

before rylde secured his 'majority' what he likes to call a 'dictatorship' ecan was run by what real canadians are terrified of. a real democratic inefficient minority government.

sure presidents like addy tried to have the iron fist and use presidential powers on the forums to force their way but congress eventually started to hold votes to decide weather to follow those orders (which was hilarious)

what i'm saying here is ecan usually talks about wanting a system where the leaders have to consult others before action takes place but in our real lives we just want the boss to get his way and run with it.

we want the efficient orderly stable government that comes with a dictatorship, we just want to feel like we have the ability to have a say in who the dictator is, and we rest easy knowing in five short years we can replace him if he screws up too bad.

so why in a world where leadership has a term of 5 years is a dictatorship so much more paletable than in one where leadership lasts only a month?
