A Noobs Thought on: Banks!

This is titled "A Noobs Thought" for a reason. I am in no way an expert in this subject. I'm just giving my opinion and thoughts on this.
While scanning the media and recent articles today here in eUSA I ran into this article. Now the first few lines interested me. There's banks in eRepublik? Am I at risk of having my gold and money stolen if I don't put it in a bank? How does this work? I decided to read the whole article.

So now I've finished reading the article and I must say, if I hadn't read the full article I probably would have put my gold in the bank. What a mistake that would have been. Here's my (Noob) thought on the bank idea:

When they said this:
"Simple : Upgrade And Create Factories .
And you will receive a 5-10% Profit after 10 Days (Deposit - Low Than 50 - 10% Profit ) ( +50 Gold deposit : 5% Profit )
Wich you invest 10 Gold , you will receive 1 Gold after 10 Days."
I'm pretty sure they meant this:
"We're going to spend all your gold and make up an excuse when you don't get it back."
Because let's be completely honest about this.. Do you feel safe giving your money to someone else? Remember it's not like this is a built in function in the game. You're not guaranteed to get your cut. This would be like giving a complete stranger on the side of the road your money and hoping he'll give it back.
That's my noob thought on this. If you don't agree say so and we'll debate and talk about it a bit, I'm always open to learn.

My understanding is that there used to be banks in this game, at least they were more standard and trusted to some degree.
I think the conditions for such a scheme to work were a lot better back then. We had times where WRM was at 0.4 (with gold = 2000cc), so payback for a Q4 company was like 2 months back then. Also no tax losses as the work tax is rather new.
However I still did it in the recent past and it worked, got my money plus profits back, though I have to admit that in my mind I kinda saw it as half an investment and half a charity action when I did it.
Hmm. Perhaps I'll try it in the future when I have a bit more gold. It just seems to me that if you choose to give it to the wrong person you will loose what you gave..
That's why I partially already gave up the gold when I donated it. 😛
