A Final Run

Day 582, 11:36 Published in USA USA by Ananias

While there are many opportunities that I am deeply thankful for while I have played eRepublik, two items stand out as exceptional: Being an eUS citizen and being chosen by the voters of Florida to represent them in the eUS Congress. When I first mentioned my intent to run for Congress in Florida in March, the idea was received by my colleagues as foolhardy given the enormous task of seeking to be the lone representative for the most populous state in the United States.

So, while I did not have a sexy avatar, and I did not have a pay-for-subscriber media campaign, and I did not have, in the minds of most, a realistic chance of being selected, I was undeterred…because I did have something that has characterized my representation throughout my congressional career:

An unswerving dedication to eUnited States success and the interests of my regional constituents.

There are many, and diverse, reasons to run for Congress.

Some run for Congress in pursuit of eRepublik fame…a starting point for greater exposure and higher office.

Some run for Congress in pursuit of the gold, the experience points, or the medal on their profile.

But I, like many of my congressional colleagues, run for Congress to make a positive difference for the eUnited States of America. While I value the personal achievement of the honor you have provided, I have always focused on a single legacy that would be remembered regarding my representation of the Sunshine State voters: Ananias may not have been the most popular citizen to ever hold the position, and he may not have been the most powerful citizen to hold the position; but Ananias worked his ass off for Florida…every single day of his tenure in office.

My focus from the beginning, and my uncompromising agenda was, and continues to be, tireless dedication to the increase in eUS military and economic strength…because it matters.

The increase and perpetuation of eUS military and economic strength is my sole focus and reason for running. I wish I could convincingly say that of every candidate for the office of Congress, because if we were all focused on that shared goal then, as partners in this great work with every citizen of the eUnited States of America, our potential as a nation would be limitless.

My fellow eAmericans…my fellow eFloridians…together we can accomplish anything.

But in order to do it…we must all commit ourselves to working our asses off for the goal.

As we move forward in the congressional elections tomorrow, and then onto the Presidential elections a short time later, let us all, as eAmericans, put aside that which would divide our national effort…the sad rhetoric of those that would pursue the personal accumulation of power and influence at the price of our collective success as a nation…the disappointing efforts of some to use the fertile soil of our national identity as workers for the common good, to plant the seeds of divisiveness for the sheer joy of separating, compartmentalizing and weakening the integrity and strength of our combined effort…

There is a choice we must all make as citizens, and our national prosperity hangs in the balance of that choice: we can embrace the rhetoric which serves to divide us or we can embrace the reward and progress of our shared efforts. The line which separates these two visions, one of a nation which pursues only the self-serving personal glory of the few and one of a nation which pursues the unity and strength of common purpose, is the broad and diverse collection of eUS voters exercising their advocacy of one vision of another through the exercise of their greatest right, the opportunity of self-determination through the democratic process, the vote.

My fellow Americans, tomorrow, with each individual vote, we will decide the vision that we will set as our national destination, it will either be one of individual acclaim, power, and influence for the privileged few or it will be one of shared purpose and collective effort for the benefit of the plurality of our citizens.

So, while today may either mark the announcement of my desire for one final term in office to complete the efforts I started several months ago for Florida or it may mark my final day as the representative for Florida...let’s commit to a vision of national prosperity and military victory as a team, rather than a vision of division and the pursuit of personal power by the few.

My fellow eAmericans…my fellow eFloridians…together we can accomplish anything.

I ask for your vote on June 25th, 2009 for these candidates, from all over the nation, that have proven their commitment to the success of their states and the prosperity of their nation through their tireless efforts toward that end rather than the tired rhetoric of those that wish to divide us:
