[eUK] Full Frontal Nudity
VoodooMike71
Obviously there is no nudity in this article - that would be Against The Rules. However, perhaps we can lay bare the current referendum, and - more importantly - the issues surrounding it.
See what I did there? Yes? Clever huh. Not just a transparent attempt to get people to open this article.
Referendum time
Even the cave-dwellers and two-clickers among us can’t have failed to notice that there is currently a referendum running. The topic of the referendum is, essentially, democracy versus dictatorship, and it won’t be running for much longer, so make sure you go and have your say.
However, many people have quite rightly pointed out that this is a serious subject, and therefore warrants serious discussion. People have opinions, complaints, suggestions and - perhaps most importantly - questions. And yet there’s nowhere obvious to air them.
Well, hopefully this article and the comments section below it will help. I’m not arrogant enough to assume that I’m important enough to provide the focus for these discussions (that’s Wayne’s job), but … well … someone’s got to do something, innit?
So let’s start with the referendum itself. What options are on offer?
That seems simple enough. You’ve got three options, with various pros and cons. The following are my interpretation of them - yours may differ:
1. Ditch the dictatorship and return to a democratically elected CP running the country
For: democracy > tyranny
Against: leaves us wide open to a foreign dictator stepping in. Costs 200,000 CC (with no guarantee of success) to achieve.
2. Keep the dictatorship in its current form
For: Protects against a foreign dictator taking over. Seems to be working OK.
Against: No democratic sanction against dictator. As a nation our future depends entirely on the dictator not being a d*ck.
3. Keep dictatorship but make the elected CP the dictator
For: best of both worlds - protection against foreign dictators, but democratic sanction remains.
Against: not part of game mechanics - we can’t stop an elected CP keeping dictatorship. Getting rid of rogue CP requires both impeachment AND revolution.
And that, pretty much, is it. Those are the three options, with their most obvious pros and cons. There are bound to be more options than that, and there are more pros and cons to the options listed. What do you think?
My view is that option 3 is the best (and is the one I’ve voted for), purely because
Comments
'As a nation our future depends entirely on the dictator not being a d*ck.' - Hasn't this always been the case, only with an elected CP?
I think the eUK would be best served at the moment with a benevolent figurehead CP; somebody we can trust. But really, what we need is to hold off on any revolution or decisions until the eUK has had a thorough debate and the relevant issues have been explained to all. At the moment I don't think Huey has done a good enough job of communicating the consequences to an 'Organise a Revolution' vote; and that his referendum has an inherent bias towards producing that outcome
'My view is that option 3 is the best (and is the one I’ve voted for), purely because I’m a greasy liberal who craves compromise I don’t like the idea of an out-and-out dictator that we have no control over.'
So he doesn't like the idea of an out and out dictator, but has voted for the only option that gives him that...
This is the logic you have to battle against Adastros.
What madness is this? Option 2 is an out-and-out dictator, option 3 is a trust-based elected dictator. Or, to put it in simpler terms for you (do try to keep up, OK?): option 2 is you, option 3 is something better than you..
Nobody has said that option 3 is ideal, but it provides more safeguards and options than hoping you don't hand the dictatorship over to some tit.
Option 3 gives the CP/Dictator a double safety net. It makes getting rid of that person twice as troublesome. After spending a minimum of 200k, you then have to wait 24 hours after the battle has been won, until you finally can remove them. To me, that is a damn sight more powerful than a 'figure head Dictator'...
Option 2 is the same only it costs 200k and then after the battle has been won, you are free of em should they not be performing as required. No one is saying, least of all me, that I will remain perma-dictator.
I think the eUK will be best served by, as Wayne said, a figurehead guy as Dictator- someone we can all trust. Gut instinct would be woldy, but he ain't especially active so we'd need to think about someone else. With a figurehead pressing the buttons and a CP doing government business it actually becomes a really good way of holding the CP back if they are malevolent, inactive or incompetent.
We need to see some proper discussion of this, and indeed any other ideas, before we go to a referendum. I'm really not a fan of how Huey has loaded the descriptions of the options in his article to steer people towards a naive 'organise a revolution' vote (which is his preference).
I was going to add that Woldy would be ideal, but he does not have the personal time from what I understand, so I didn't want to pile pressure on him nor hae others pressure him either.
If only Emergy still played...
Yeah foreign dictators CANT buy a revolution!!! They can only buy a single battle 😉
You know your old Goku avatar is still showing, right Goku?
"until the eUK has had a thorough debate... ”
That is the style intention of this article.
As Dictator, I write my own job description. Looking at the list I made, I don't find 'spoon feeding eUK' among them...
..because you did all your spooning when you were putting together your "how to be the dictator" plan?
I've done my fair share of aeroplane noises and choo choo trains...
This is the kind of thing eRep political careers are made from. Make the most of it.
Point. Missed.
Different type of spooning mate.
'plan'
good one m8

I didn't want to suggest that you were stupid enough to hand it to him without there being some form of cunning plan. Surely not even you would ... oh.

Let's have a referendum about who's going to be dictator.
Oh the irony.
It's not irony. It's a demotator.
