International Women's Day + gifts

Day 2,664, 11:44 Published in Australia Chile by Australian Parliamentary Party

Every year on March 8th, many women's clubs throughout Australia hold events on or around this day that reflect global and local gender issues. Day events take place to honour and celebrate the achievements of women all around the world. Large and small, formal or informal, these events mark the economic, political and social achievements of women.

All Australian Parliamentary Party (APP) members would just like to celebrate and remind the eworld that the 8th of March is International Women's Day. We would like to commemorate this special day by sending out our respect and best wishes to all women in our eWorld community.

In the real world we usually give flowers or some cute presents to the ladies, but we don't have such items here, instead of flowers our gifts to the ladies will be 100 pieces of the best quality food. Unfortunately we are not able to know who stands behind the avatars, so just put (or include) a star * below in your comment if you are female, and you will be given the food.

Let's Cover A Little More Information About This Day:

In 1913 Russian women observed their first International Women's Day on the last Sunday in February (by Julian calendar then used in Russia). Although there were some women-led strikes, marches, and other protests in the years leading up to 1914, none of them happened on March 8th. In 1914 International Women's Day was held on March 8, possibly because that day was a Sunday, and now it is always held on March 8th in all countries.

The day is an official holiday in Afghanistan, Angola, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Burkina Faso, Cambodia, China (for women only), Cuba, Georgia, Guinea-Bissau, Eritrea, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Macedonia (for women only), Madagascar (for women only), Moldova, Mongolia, Nepal (for women only), Russia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uganda, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zambia.

In some countries, such as Cameroon, Croatia, Romania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Bulgaria and Chile, the day is not a public holiday, but is widely observed nonetheless. On this day it is customary for men to give the women in their lives – friends, mothers, wives, girlfriends, daughters, colleagues, etc. – flowers and small gifts. In some countries (such as Bulgaria and Romania) it is also observed as an equivalent of Mother's Day, where children also give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers.

Note:
The giveaways (100 Q7 food) will continue to the end of eDay 2666.
