[Yui4CP] The Elephant in the Room

Day 3,146, 19:58 Published in USA USA by Yui MHCP001

In my term, Foreign Affairs has been relatively stable. We're having a great time wiping Spain with our good friends Argentina, Portugal, and Hungary. Unfortunately, Latvia is currently wiped, however we soon will be dedicating all resources toward that.

But the only thing being mentioned is Russia. Let's talk about that.

As I was writing the script for the Cabinet video, I noticed that Derphoof had published another article. And much to my dismay, it was an article about Russia.

For those who weren’t here to see it, or for those who need a quick refresher, Congress decided to drop the MPP with Russia, mostly due to the continuing Bulgarian MPP.

After about of week of thinking about the whole situation, I personally came to the conclusion that we shouldn’t have dropped it, so I wrote an article on it, asking Congress to rethink and reverse their decision.

The way I arrived at this conclusion is seeing what looked like the worst case scenario. I had thought that the MPP rejection would lead to Russia leaving and possibly the fracturing of Pacifica. This could have led to a powerful enemy attacking, one which we couldn’t fight off with a broken alliance.

I believed that we could solve our issues with diplomacy. In order to accomplish that, we would need to sign the MPP as an olive branch.

However, when I brought this to Congress, I wasn’t too clear as to why I thought we needed that Russian MPP. Not only that, I also didn’t consult my State Department with this decision of mine.

So, it didn’t go well. The MPP got rejected yet again with a great majority, and that was that. I dropped the entire topic afterwards, hoping that the blackest spot on my eRep career could fade away, but in reality I knew it wouldn’t, which brings us to today.

There is simply no excuses for what conspired. I just had a large case of poor judgement. I have been advised to delete the Russia article, but I do not believe that it is the best case to pretend it never happened. It will stay there as an example to myself and to all as to not what not to do in foreign policy. The least I could do is apologize to my State Department for not asking for their opinions, and to Russia for giving them false hope.

In my first campaign article of this term, Schubacca, formerly known as James Schubert, asked what my approach to our Russian relationship was going forward. I believe what’s best for both countries is to just leave it be. The water boiled over, so it’s time to turn off the heat for a while. I hope that we’ll still work together as Alliance Co-founders without having this muddy situation get in the way.

It's what we're already doing. As far as I can tell, Pacifica is as stable as ever.

Again, I want to apologize to all parties involved. This will never happen again. I can only hope for your forgiveness.
