Spotlight: Canada

One of the most interesting recent conflicts to engulf America is that of its Canadian war. Initiated over Canada’s MPPing of Serbia, widely regarded as a benevolent enemy of America’s in the view of the average citizen. The war ended up as an occupation from the United States. Before getting into the thick of it, let’s review some brief history of the Canadian-US Relations. Canada has for the last year or so been relatively close to the US providing the occasional support here and there, though invading Canada seems to be the running joke here for the return of our hat; tensions have obviously increased recently.

I sat down with Rylde, President/Prime Minister of Canada to discuss the recent occupation/invasion and their relationship with Serbia. One of the things we discussed were the reasons Canadians were angry with the US’ occupation. President Rylde stated that “Canadians wanted to fight against having their foreign policy dictated” and after inheriting the MPP with Serbia during his term, he felt obligated to ensure the will of the people was carried out. “Canadians are a stubborn, so they'd rather be wiped and be able to choose their own friends than be a someone's dog” He also stated. We then switched to the heated discussion on the NAP terms proposed by America which President Rylde declared were “Insulting” and a “joke”. The President thinks this war is bringing his nation together over a common cause and that this has pushed their political differences aside to unite them, and while he sees no resolution in the immediate future, he intends to have Canada continue to be a nuisance to the US. It’s worth noting that the NAP terms proposed by America basically wouldn’t have allowed Canada any regions for right now (though as some State officials have stated, this was supposed to be subject to back and forth negotiation).

War commonly affects the internal status of a nation, and I briefly brought this up with the President as well. President Rylde believes that, as state earlier, this war will unify the country (as we’ve seen it do with some of their successful RWs recently). Rylde believes that, “We've been in this position many times. Our citizens know how to cope and they would rather fight and be wiped than surrender to bad terms”.

This war is likely to continue on and tensions will likely remain high between the two countries. This was a bit of a different spotlight than usual, but I think it was worth taking a look at our continuing saga with the nation of Canada, a nation we’ve been allies and enemies with plenty of times, and especially important since it involves Serbia, apparently America’s mortal enemy. As always, I’m Irule777, and this was spotlight with the WHPR. Good luck to both nations in the war moving forward, it should be interesting to watch it play out.

(Special thanks to Rylde who sat down and let me pick apart the interview a bit. We also talked about LETO and some other stuff, but this can only be so long…)

eMedia Report: Death of Radio
Saraht0ga

About a year ago, when I joined eRepublik, there were two radio shows: eNPR, at that time hosted by Henry Pfeiffer Arundel, and eFPR. Their purposes, to engage citizens and to discuss current events and issues in the eUS and eWorld, were fascinating to me as a new player. Here was a game that looked like barely anything on the surface, but for which the players had created such an interesting, involved meta game in which you found yourself enthralled. It's because of radio, and Dr. Luis Sentieiro's desire to start up a radio show for AMP, that I was taken from two clicker/newbie status and sucked into the world of eRep Media.

What happened to radio, though? As those of you who know me are aware, I had fallen back into a two clicker state of being for the past several months, and found upon my return that only eFPR still stands. According to Pfeiffer, eNPR started some time during the fall of 2011 thanks in large part to Cerb, which really marked the beginning of radio as a medium in the game. As my own interest in the game waned last fall, it seemed that a great deal of interest in eRepublik themed radio fell off as well. The drive to host episodes, the work it takes to discuss topics that are both relevant and interesting to listeners, and quite simply the logistics of scheduling episodes around real life all seem to have been detrimental to the entire eRepublik radio phenomenon.

Is there a future for radio on eRepublik? With the loss of shows like eNPR and AMPR, it seems not. As someone who has put a great deal of work into the media aspect of this game, I feel that this is a problem worth fixing. With what appears to be an already weakening meta game presence, building up and maintaining a captivating meta game for people who might otherwise stay away is something we should all be aware of and working to find a solution to. Without these things, without compelling media and events worth discussing on IRC and in the game itself, no one will be more than a two clicker.

And I, personally, think we're all better than that.

American Hero: Red Bird USA
Paul Proteus

Today our American hero is a long time player and eUS Marine, who is none other than:

Redbirdusa!

He has been playing eRepublik since mid 2009 when he joined into the eUS Army, a branch of the eUS Military which was then part of the government. He started out at the platoon level of leadership working his way up the chain of command from First Sergeant of the 5/3 Platoon to Colonel of the Army’s First Division. After some time here he became the commanding officer of the prestigious Army Rangers Division.

While he was working his way up Army he was giving his all to the battle our beloved eUSA was in at the time. From WWIII where he helped fight on the main fronts against Indonesia and Portugal, up through history to some more recent battles. His activity, dedication and fighting spirit earned him the demanding job of Commandant of the Marine Corps where he currently serves today.

More than any old soldier doing his duty Redbirdusa has dedicated his e-Life to his military career giving his all for the protection of the eUSA and her values. He has served for 5 solid years and continues to this day; his participation in many of our great conflicts does not go thankless.

AS such we would like to thank him for his undying service over his time playing and bestow upon him the title of American Hero. While the only people who can truly understand a marine are marines and his enemies (as I am neither) I hope I did him justice.

Upcoming PP Elections
Blondeninja

With PP elections looming I thought it prudent to give you a prequel to mondays issue with a heads up regarding the next elections.

We all know the story of VT by now and it’s been pretty well covered through many papers and articles. DMJ became the acting PP as he was runner up and he is going again this term. However nearly each of the major parties have some sort of PTOer on their polls and we will have to be able to respond at a moments notice. Primaries are being run in each party now (that has more than one candidate) and DHS is currently working with them all together to prepare for the election day.

While the threat will not be to the same extent that it was previously requiring massive amounts of moving and work to get a big party down and out of the “danger zone”. This was undoubtably tough for WTP and we aim to avoid this in the future. Once each party's primary poll is concluded the official candidates will be announced for each party and I’m sure we will be one among other papers to bring this information to you all. Keep an eye out for those articles and stay tuned for updates we bring you next issue. And don’t forget to vote in your party’s primary!

War Map
Alexander Auctoritas

That's more like it.

1. Latvia continues to fight off Belarus. They keep getting attacked consistently. The war goes back and forth, a perfect MPP battle of SIRIUS vs ASTERIA.

2. Serbia is about to attack Albania, again. I once asked an Albanian if they would ever consider peace with Serbia or an NAP. They replied, "Never. Never. Never. Never." Someday we all hope to see a red Serbia.

3. Greece is moving through Italy, easily. I wonder whom they will attack next? I'd put some money on Chile. And I'd also put money on Chile winning that war. We shall see.

4. Croatia has just opened a new war with Hungary. Honestly, I'd expect Croatia to win a couple of battles. We will monitor the situation and see if either alliance puts this as a major priority. Croatia could very well beat up on Hungary.

5. Finland has just opened a war with Estonia, but this is nothing new. I kinda thought that Asgard and the Baltic nations has brokered peace. O well.

6. And Portugal is just one battle away from wiping Venezuela. Which proves that you don't engage if you don't have what it takes to finish. Or rather the full support of your alliance. Bye Bye Venezuela. Good job, Portugal.

That's pretty much it. Situation normal in Europe and elsewhere. I'd like to see some good airstrikes to spice things up, but it is not up to me.

Until next time, keep shaking that ass.
