Disagreed. Actual respect should be earned and the "default" respect (as in, an individual is neither respected or disrespected) can be lost through actions. Many people in eRep have lost mine through theirs, as well as I have lost many people's respect through my own actions.

Quite frankly I'm perfectly fine with this situation and see no need to bother working to improve it. If you feel otherwise and want to change the situation, then that's cool, too, but the way to achieve that is not through empty virtue signalling like this article, but through meaningful actions. So next time Keith insinuates everyone in PCP are cheaters (or tries to PTO a party...), try telling him off instead of being a bystander. In my opinion these are the kinds of actions that could actually help improve the situation.

I never said that all the pirates are cheaters and I never tried to PTO a party. I find it ridiculous that the PTO party itself should try and make such pretend snowflake outrage after successfully PTOing my party last month using a multi pretending to be a new player.

In this very post you use the blanket term "the pirates" to accuse us of both multi creation and PTOs. I have pointed out to you multiple times that such blanket terms obviously apply to members of PCP as a whole. When identical statements were applied to different groups, you did not agree with them. So it is obvious that you do understand what effect these statements have and that you're doing this purposefully.

As far as your PTOing goes, you clearly tried to PTO Zaphod's party in the last PP election. I suspect in your head this seemed like a cunning plan to "expose" the hypocrisy of "the pirates" and claim that they were the ones PTOing the party, despite the fact that it was an ATO against you. I doubt your view will be shared by anyone else who is not extremely biased about the situation and/or has at least a semi-functioning brain. If you still feel like making silly, flawed explanations for how it was not a PTO, go for it, I imagine it will be an entertaining read.

I could use the same excuse that zap used. I am a genuine supporter of the zap for cp party and I helped it by getting into the top 10. I wanted to be the PP so that zap could get into congress. I was thwarted by a pirate interfering in an internal party election. If you don't don't swallow this then you should not have swallowed all the pirate bs I have had to put up with.

You can use any excuse you want, but whether it is reinforced by facts is a different matter. From what I've seen so far, your excuses don't seem to do that and you are indeed a PTOer. Same with your allegations that we helped Zap PTO your party: your only evidence seemed to be that you didn't like PCP, and your arguments that PTO even occurred seemed to split it 50/50. I'm sorry you had to put up with bs such as providing evidence for your claims, how unfortunate for you that people don't take your erroneous accusations at face value.

Since you did state that you did the same thing as Zap did, though, I am curious which is it: are you saying you are a PTOer just as Zap is, or did Zap participate as a legitimate candidate just as you did (minus the winning part)?

Talon I think you are wasting your time with this - people who are actively seeking to get Forfeit Points by insulting and abusing others are not going to change. You only have to look at the comment Roachford has made above to see what you're up against - he has actually claimed he is happy with people being abused, insulted and all manner of allegations including calling people paedophiles in real life and he further claims that those calling out such people are the problem. With people like that I think the only solution is to do what someone suggested on an article earlier had happened in Portugal - leave them to their cesspit. I have no intention of ever coming back whilst such people infest the eUK - they're welcome to it.

The question in these cases is who disrespected the other first. There are many people on "your" side whose actions could be considered disrespectful that you seem to he OK with and it is those who get the disrespect back. You seem fine if people on "your" side cheat, throw accusations without proof etc. Didn't Malice back in the day get accused of being a paedophile by some sections of the community without widespread condemnation? And it wasn't UKPP....

And no I'm not defending some of the terminology used by people - comments should be judged on their own merits. You are just a hypocrite with double standards.

If you're referring to my statement towards Talon, you're twisting words as I never said that what he's doing is a problem, just that it's empty virtue signalling and isn't doing anything to repair the situation. If you're talking about my reference to Keith, then you're a hypocrite for overlooking Keith's own insults and allegations as "calling out bad behavior". Either way, seems like once again you're pushing all the blame onto us and refusing to acknowledge your part in it. On several occasions you have called us cheaters, Trump supporters and Transphobes, just to name a few. Although these insults matter little to most of us, it is pretty obvious that in your eyes they're much more damaging, and your intentions behind these insults are worth keeping in mind.

I imagine you'll want to apply the same "I didn't accuse everyone, I just used blanket statements" logic here as you did before. I already explained why it's bogus on the previous. reply so you, so we can skip it here.

Would you mind being more specific with your insults then and only accusing the PCP members that are cheating, supporting Trump, committing PTOs etc? Or is that too hard because then you'll have to provide actual evidence to back up your claims since "some pirates do x" won't cut it in specific examples?

Picking up on Roachford's comment. I'd offer a rephrase that might save your cause. Everyone deserves to be treated to your own good manners, because manners come from within and are not applied to one person differently than to another. If you lack breeding or good education, that reflects upon you. Bad manners show others the limit of your discourse.

Respect is indeed earned, it's not something that anyone deserves without merit. Respect is a vector measure, it has negative and positive and therefore a zero state where people start. Casual language is at fault for promoting these kinds of verbal confusions. Having 'no respect' isn't a negative, it just means you've not got it. Having 'no money' doesn't mean you owe a debt.

Our personalities are vitally important on-line they distinguish us from one another. Our history of interactions shared within the group paints a story for each of us. People who play GTA/carmageddon in every aspect of their lives are going to rack up negativity with one group or another. This is handled in the first by not doing it, making amends, or realizing you've spent too long rubbing people up the wrong way. So make like a legal multi and start afresh. Sure it cost you time and money in a wasted avatar - but the alternative is EVERYONE pretending and forgiving constantly.

Respect shouldn't have to be earned, having a respectful attitude to people that you meet for the first time should be the default behaviour. Otherwise, by the time they've "earned" your respect, you'll probably have lost any chance of getting theirs.

You don't have to have respect for new people - you merely have to show them the courtesy of not deliberately disrespecting them until respect is earned (or lost)

For clarity, I'm using the following meaning of respect:

Only UK player I have/had a major beef with was Jamesw, most of the rest I'm neutral on.

If I meet a really fat person for the first time and think, "wow, you are so fat!", but don't say it, I'm respecting their feelings. There's a level of respect that you give people you feel neutral about.

You seem to be criticising Michael for using a different definition of "respect" while acknowledging the different valid definitions exist.
