[Storasyster] President election March 5th 2015

Today we vote to uphold one of the last remaining traditions from seasons past. But not everyone will get that chance.

February 2015, the dictatorship change stormed in and many countries jumped the gun, throwing away their old constitutions in hopes of finding a leader that would rule their countries with a firm hand. Some used it as a preemptive strike against potential PTO threats and were probably right in doing so (congratulations Denmark!) while others might be more regretful when the true powers and setbacks of having a dictator starts to unfold.

In the far North, we're a bit more traditional.

But by defending our democracy we take on a larger responsibility as a community. The president will have to find a way to unite the people again and help making sure that the congress elections are taken seriously by the top party presidents. We have been sloppy (FBS in particular) and we cannot afford to continue like that if we want to stay clear of military coups. Every citizenship pass in small countries should be considered a gold mine, not to be handed out without the consent of your fellow citizens.

No matter who wins today, Sweden will have to run a tight ship this month. The next president will have to scavenge the community for talented people to form a competent and active cabinet, perhaps even look outside of Sweden.

Alliances, alliances...

This month will mostly be about which countries we want to call friends and allies in the near future. The New World is constantly changing. We have recently seen the map of resources change entirely and it would be a fool's errand to predict how everything will pan out from here on.

But I am confident that our position and geo-location is better today than it has been for many years. Small countries needs heavy MPP's and Sweden is no exception. But we're also low maintenance since most of our potentially dangerous neighbours already got the resources we have. Not having to defend our own cores gives us the chance to help our allies instead. I believe that the 10k spent on siding with Sweden will net a whole lot more damage than spending the same amount on CO's - and that damage will be for a month instead of one battle.

eRepublik is a marathon race. You take up a good position and then you keep going.

I see some old souls resurfacing here and there. Drutten (or as he prefers it, Durruti) is back in the heat again and running for presidency in Spain. Things might change down there and I'm sure that there are other countries also longing for a change. We'll have to wait and see what comes out of it.

Giving the voters a chance to make a choice

Enlisting in the president election this month was a decision I made only after Jock started a military coup less than two weeks ago.

I'm running because of how fragile our country can be when people just follow blindly leaving their leaders without margin for error.

I have not tried to seduce any other parties or offered any salvation for my fellow Swedes if I win. I consider bargaining for voters or party members to be a kind of prostitution. Everyone keeps telling me that you must always be backed by either the no 1 (FBS) or the no 2 (NG) party in the country to stand a chance in the president elections. People say that without the two-clickers, you're doomed and/or multies.

I don't believe that to be true.

It's more fun to stand on your own and see what the crowd does. We should let the voters decide and give them the responsibility of electing a good candidate. Whoever wins will instead have to be prepared to take responsibility AFTER the election. Besides, it's more fun to run without knowing how the election will end up.

Five years ago, in 2010, I became the first candidate to win a president election without running for the largest party. At the time, my party (LV) was struggling to keep themselves within the top 5.

Three years ago, in 2012, I won the election in a party that we had created less than a month prior to the election (Nationalgardet).

Today, in march 2015, I'm running from a party I started myself less than three weeks ago (Storasyster). I started out with only myself as a member and yesterday we were still no more than 10 members, going up against the by far largest party in the country. FHD decided to back us without me having contacted them (thank you for that) and NG seem to have forgot to elect a candidate... so this could be a difficult race against Zudden from FBS. I wish both him and myself the best of luck.

Vote as you please

That's pretty much all there is to it.

former 8 time president of Sweden and Keeper of The Cake
