[Interview] Dutch President NoTie112

Day 2,900, 12:42 Published in Norway Denmark by Joshua Morriseau

Recently Netherlands was accepted as a trial member into Orion and I was very fortunate to sit down and do a short interview with none other than an old friend and the Dutch President himself, NoTie112.

1. Congratulations on getting Netherlands accepted in Orion. Can you explain how this all came together?

It all happened quite naturally. We have been close with each separate nation of Orion over the past few months. Canada has thrown in their lot with us when we were wiped a while ago and we're doing the same now they are in trouble. France and Canada essentially liberated us when we were wiped by Italy and Germany. With Sweden, Peru and Iran we too have been in touch with over the past few months, be it in discussing possible military operations or in the form of MPPs.

Eventually, some weeks ago, we were proposed in Orion as possible member by our friends in the different nations and support for us seemed to be widespread within Orion and their members. We have worked hard on our foreign affairs the past half-year, helping everywhere around the world as much as we can, and it seems those efforts have paid off.

2. It is well known that Norway left its alliance (Nebula) when Netherlands was rejected from joining Nebula. Many in Norway had hoped for another alliance with both nations in it. What do you say to those Norwegians and how do you think it will bode for the relationship between our two nations moving forward?

We felt honoured that Norway really cared for us, back when it seemed like we had no one in the world and we'd have a fate of being an easy bonus ground for Italian, German or whatever enemy's their food farms. But, as Nebula has shown, the friendship between our countries go way past alliances. Whether we are in Orion or not, whether Norway and the Netherlands are not united in one alliance or not is all just formalities which some relations don't need to function. And I think the relation between Norway and the Netherlands is one such relation. However, I wouldn't complain if we would find ourselves in one alliance for once, after both Asgard and Nebula failed in that context

3. Your nation hasn't been in any major alliance since EDEN (not counting the NSPP) which has allowed you to develop and pursue independent policies. Do you think it will be a challenge for your country to adapt to the new changes?

Being independent as small nation.. Is kind of an impossibility in eRepublik. Even while we haven't found ourselves in a formal alliance for years, we still were interdependent on our allies and enemies in the world. Our strength - and the strength of every successful small nation - lays in a well-polished foreign affairs. And with such relations come responsibilities, whether it is in a formal alliance or not.

For the Netherlands to thrive we depend on friends and allies in the world, simple as that. I'm, however, not implying that we need to be begging for the goodwill of bigger nations, but i.e. a military operation initiated by the Netherlands will always be favoured in cooperation with others. With having said that, being in an alliance and having responsibilities about acting with the approval of i.e. other members and the HQ is only a plus, not a constraint, as it would streamline the practices we already have been doing whenever we plan something.

4. There are rumours of a rocky relationship between Netherlands and Sweden. Is there any truth to them and if so how will it affect your position in Orion?

I'm not aware of any rocky relations between Sweden and the Netherlands. In fact, Sweden is one of our closest partners in the last 2 months. Therefore I have absolutely no worries about the relation between Sweden and the Netherlands in Orion. Now, of course, there are doubts about the Netherlands as viable member of Orion and worries about Orion itself in the population of Sweden (and surely in others as well), but that is not the cause of a rocky relationship, but only a legitimate concern which we (the Netherlands) understand and will deal with.

5. Lastly, I see that you have turned to demonic ways...as can be seen here. How do you think this will affect your political career?

I can't reply to that, according to the voices in my head.

There it is folks! I hope you enjoyed. I must thank my guest for agreeing to do this and to speak about his nations affairs. If you want to see some more interviews let me know in the comments!

As always don't forget to V,S,S&E!

Kind Regards,
